@Mrs. Pen: I'm guessing a lot smaller! We had our Radian rearfacing in the middle beautifully! When our second son was born we moved the Radian behind the drivers seat with the angle adjuster (we could also brace the carseat if we needed because our car was older) and the Myride rearfacing behind the passenger seat. No room for anything else back there, but they fit fine.

@Katrocap: thanks so much, I think we're going to go with the mysize - it has good reviews and will fit in my car, so win-win!

Thanks everybody for the input - love HelloBee! :)

@sotofamilia: We have a 2-door Yaris. Needless to say, it's a small car! This week we had to transition from infant seat to convertible. We got a Graco My Size 70. It fits easily in the backseat rearfacing and, in fact, the front passenger side has more room than with the infant seat! Good luck with your search and purchase.

@coastmama: the BRU in Asheville let us try them out. But someone tried the BRU in the capitol and they laughed in her face :(

Here's the deal with car seats: if you don't get one that has longevity, you're gonna be buying more than one anyway. Why not put that money toward one well-constructed, long-life seat? If my LO was smaller (percentile-wise), I probably would've gone with the Corocco. But he's big and long and I want to rear-face for as long as possible.

@Mrs. Pen: I've "heard" that they do. I could be wrong. Seems like some of them do... and some of them don't. We will call ahead before going to see. We don't have any BBB in our area.

@coastmama: does BRU allow you to try carseats in the car? I know BBB does, but didn't think BRU does.

@Koolbreeze: wow!! isn't a focus smaller than a fusion, too? that gives me hope! The nearest BBB is an hour away, but I do want to try it in our car before purchasing it.

So I know it's a bit pricey, but the Clek Foonf fits in the half-bench back seat of my husband's extended cab truck. I love it so much and even though it looks huge and is made of steel, it somehow takes up the same space as our maxi cosi mico...

@allison: I actually mentioned the foonf to DH.... and he laughed when I told him how much it cost. He's a hard sell, but I still am worried about its height. I have the same car I had in HS (Lexus is300 2003) and its a very short car. When I mentioned maybe getting a larger vehicle... he laughed even harder (insert exaggerated eye roll). The Radian looks rather tall too. And I'm sure JM would outgrow the corroco too early......

I guess we will just make the trek to BRU and try every seat they have! Hah!

We use to have a Focus. Way older though, 2001. But we could fit a Graco Myride and a Diono Radian in the back rearfacing. The squishy seats are so helpful!

@kiddosc: @2PeasinaPod: we have the mazda 3 also and have the combi coccoro. It does have a lower weight/height limit than others, but at 2.5yo she still has at least a year to go (she is avg height/weight). I'm hoping by the time DD2 needs the combi, DD1 can go to a backless booster.

@MamaJ: thanks! I'm going to try out the britax pavillion and marathon in my car, because I think I can get the best deal on britax at a baby store in my area.

@allison: thanks for the recommendation! I'm a little intimidated by the foonf to be honest - it looks so high tech!

@kiddosc: thanks for distinguishing between the mysize and myride - I didn't know there was a difference.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions - I was feeling kind of down about having a small car, like nothing is going to fit. It's nice to know that others also have small cars and have made it work! :)

@sotofamilia: The mysize70 actually has a smaller footprint and works well in smaller cars because of it's adjustable headrest. The myride70 is the one that takes up more room. I wish Graco would come up with better names to distinguish them.

@2PeasinaPod: We were originally looking at a different seat, but went to BRU where they would let us try it in the car and it didn't come anywhere near fitting. I definitely always recommend trying one out in the car before you buy if it's possible.

You probably already know what I'm going to say... Foonf! The only space they take up is top to bottom, but left-right and fore-aft, the footprint is really small! And it's been easy for us to get a tight install. I messaged a Clek tech to see if she knew for sure a Foonf would fit; I'll let you know if/when she replies :)

You could also go with a Radian with the angle adjuster for a more upright install.

Those two are going to be the smallest seats that give you the most longevity.

Or the Combi Corocco. Small, but lower weight/height limits.

@kiddosc: I'm glad to hear that the mysize 70 fits your car - from what I read, that seems to be one of the bigger seats, so if that fits, I'm sure other seats fit as well...maybe I was being too pessimistic about being able to find a seat that fits in my Focus!

I have a mazda 3 and our Graco mysize 70 fits well in the back seat. I'm 5'6" and can sit comfortably in the front seat. My husband, 6'2" would not be able to sit in the passenger seat though. We were actually able to move the front seat back from where it was positioned with the infant seat.

@ladybee: Yea we had a civic when P was in her infant seat & it wasn't until recently I learned it was installed incorrectly bc Chicco requires the car seat doesn't touch (also called bracing) the front vehicle seat at all. :/

I have a Civic and LO sits in a Britax Marathon. It works fine for him and there's definitely still room for him to rear face comfortably (he's almost 14 months). However there's not much leg room in front for the passenger (we can't put the seat in the middle in my car). I fit fine if I'm not the one driving (I'm 5'5) but my husband and sister get a little cramped.

I would join the fb group "Car Seats for the Littles" & ask them there! (Lots of techs that can chime in). Be sure to include your lo height & weight and they'll have lots of suggestions!

One thing I do remember is that even though the Focus is smaller, Ford seats are really squishy so alot of seats you can still easily get in just by pushing them farther into the seat. :)
