are you talking about just crossing parking lots and driveways? then I would stick with dressing warmly in the car, like others said but then just shielding your baby with a blanket while walking to get indoors. No need to fuss with a coat if you'll be outside for less than a minute.

I'm thinking of fleece too. I'm thinking it will depend on what we're doing. If we can just schlep her into a store real quick wrapped in a blanket or into the house real quick, just a fleece sweater or jacket.

I would bring the coat and put it on in the car before we got out...but I made a rookie mom mistake and bought a puffer coat.

This year, we're using a fleece. Should be more than warm enough for our needs, as when we're in transit we are not out for long periods. We have other options when we're playing outside.

Im not so worried about fall, but more about winter when it gets really cold! Like wind chill below zero cold and a fleece won't cut it...

I thought it was only puffy jackets that compromised safety, so a fleece or pea coat should be fine

That's what we plan to do. Or use fleece since it's warm, but not thick enough to compromise safety.

This could potentially be a really stupid question, but given coats aren't recommended to be worn when babies are in car seats, what do you do during the winter when your baby is in a convertible car seat? Do you just pack the coat in the car and put it on when you get to your destination?
