I would have skipped the infant bucket, knowing what our experience was. We hardly used the car, just for a few short trips on the weekends, and we lived on the third floor, so carrying the baby and the car seat got old fast.

@runsyellowlites: we have the Diono Radian RXT. It's a great carseat, but it doesn't seem as safe (for newborns) as our Britax Chaperone. We got it bc it's narrow, steel frame, and DD can sit rear facing for much longer than other seats.

I think the Diono Radian is marketed as a convertible that will fit three across in cars.

@LovelyPlum: We went with a Britax Marathon. I really wanted the Diono Radian, but it was a little too long and tall for my car. Even with the adjuster I think it would have been too tall for me to see over.

@runsyellowlites: yes, they're good from 5 pounds and install was pretty easy RF with latch. It is a tall seat, pro being LO can RF for a long time. Con is it might mean whoever is in front of it loses a lot of leg room in smaller cars. They sell an angle adjuster for that, but I don't think you can use it until LO is 1. We didn't need the adjuster in our Sonata but did in our CRV. Another pro: it becomes a booster, so could be the only one you need.

@Dandelion: I second this, I LOVE the Graco My Ride 65!! It is very large, but would nicely hold a newborn. I loved my infant carrier though, so I didn't implement the convertible seat until he was almost a year old. At almost a year and a half he is still happily riding rear facing in the My Ride.

@runsyellowlites: This is what I'm planning to do with Cricket. I have two Cosco Sceneras now and will be getting a 5-point booster for Deere Boy in the near future so Cricket can have his seat. Then I will wear Cricket everywhere we go- with a 4- and 2-year-old to wrangle, I'm not going to have an extra hand to tote that bucket seat everywhere. Plus, our old bucket seat is expired and I'd rather invest in a nice carrier than another car seat that I'll probably use for less than a year anyways.
I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee, so will be putting 3 car seats across the backseat too- but I was counting on putting Deere Boy's booster in the middle seat since he'll be able to crawl in there a lot easier by himself. Blah. I'm hopeful we can upgrade to a Suburban within the next year or so because I am NOT looking forward to squeezing them all in there.

@runsyellowlites: Thanks! I always use the stroller in restaurants, even till this day she prefers sitting in her stroller to sitting in a high chair. And at church the middle aisle has plenty of room to park the stroller so I always sit there. I have never had a problem with using the stroller in restaurants, and in the beginning we ate out every day.

We originally got the Combi b/c we were in a small civic but now in the Escape we have a bit more room in that arena! Does it seat from birth?.. I guess if it doesn't we can always put P in it & give the new bebe the Combi!

@zippylef: I'm hoping in the next 18 mths we can upgrade to a Traverse.. about the time we'll be having to get a bigger seat for P anyways (well not quite but it'll be on the horizon) so the room issue will be resolved. After G I found lugging an infant seat around pretty inconvenient so it stayed in the car alot anyways. lol

@runsyellowlites: We've been talking about doing this with the Recaro ProRide we're going to get C. We'll just move her back into her Alpha Omega full-time, since it converts all the way up to a regular booster/100lbs (she'll be 4-5), and the new baby can use the Recaro. I want to babywear and get the bassinet attachment for our City Mini.

More than likely, we'll end up with another infant seat though. The convenience factor for me is a huge plus. HOWEVER, if I had 3 and had to install it in the center... I'd probably do exactly what you're doing.

We skipped the infant seat. We have a Britax advocate. It has been great for us. LO fit perfectly right away and seems really comfortable in it. I used an infant seat for her when visiting family and was miserable lugging that thing plus her around. For restaurants we'd just use our stroller. I'm really glad we decided to skip the infant seat and haven't regretted not having one at all. And I'm happy to not have to store one too seeing as she's too heavy for one at five months.
