We used our Peg Perego convertible. It is heavy-ish but installed so easy both on the plane (rear facing) and in the rental.

I have used the Scenera, and agree it is difficult to install in a car rear facing witout a pool noodle...so I agree with Chanzi on bringing a piece of noodle with you...or a rolled up towel.

@Pepper: yes, it's easy to install but we are rear facing and I have yet to find a car where the angle is right. To correct the problem we bring 1/3 of a pool noodle along as an angle adjuster.

@chanzi: I knew it came with straps, but oh my gosh would that thing be heavy to lug around, even on your back! Is the scenera easy to install in a car?

We also have a radian and use the scenera as a travel seat. Last time we flew we ran into a family that was traveling with their radian. I expressed my surprise given its weightt and they were like, but it has straps so you can wear it as a backpack! Lol. True, but still...

@Emsmems: Thanks for the rec! He's a peanut, so he's definitely small enough. That is crazy about the radian, I had no idea!!

I know many times the Cosco Scenera is recommended if he's within those limits (RF 35 lbs, 36"). It's cheap and lightweight from what I hear!

PS: But if you decide to just take the radian, get a seatbelt extender. I guess the regular seatbelt can get stuck in the belt path and they have to disassemble the whole airplane seat!!

Does anyone have a recommendation on a convertible car seat that would be good for flying, and easy to install/uninstall in a rental car?

We have a Diono Radian RXT, but it's super heavy and not easy to install. I wouldn't want to bring it on a plane (especially if I'm traveling alone with LO) or try to install it in a small rental car!

I normally would just have LO fly as a lap child, but he threw a GIANT fit the last time we flew without a car seat. Hoping to avoid that again, especially now that he's mobile!

Any suggestions? :)
