DS is 4 months and still hates the car. I usually can't even get out of the driveway without him crying.

Yeah, D also hated the car for the first 3 months or so. The only thing that helped, sometimes, was giving him a blanket, a paci, and blaring white noise. Otherwise...grin and bear it. Sorry, mama, but it DOES get better!!

Try music...my daughter would only calm down with Lou Leonard Cohen. No other artist.

Same problem here. She screamed 2/3 of an 8 hour trip. Such a rip off since people always tell you babies love the car!!

@Foodnerd81: HAHA it is intense.
My DD hated being in the car until she was a little shy of 3 months old. We took a 3 hour roap trip of misery when she was 2 months old. Right around 3 months she got over it!

Thankfully DS loved it from the get go and always fell asleep in the car.

@Foodnerd81: nothing helped us except D'S getting older! It took probably until 4.5-5 mo until putting him in the car didn't result in an instant scream fest. It gets better!

@chopsuey: that's pretty intense! I think it would overstimulate her now but as she gets older I think toys could help.

@brownie: we've tried blaring the white noise too-- it's like an ocean crashing right in the car. It may help a teeny bit but hard to tell.

Ironically, today Sounds of Silence came on while she was screaming in the background :)

White noise app over the speakers. Ultimately, we just didn't let him hate it. Now with th tablet and movies he is pretty good. We just did two 4 hour drives today with him. He was a touch whiny cause he's sick but not just screaming.

R hated the car seat too! I just started putting her in it everyday so she would get use to it. By 8 weeks it was better. We took. 5 hour car ride and she did ok cause I sat in the back with her.

Time is really the only thing that worked I think.

My DS still hates the car at 9 months. We moved him to a convertible seat and still hates it. If we get lucky he will just play. He rarely sleeps. I've just had to get used to the crying :(

Any tips on getting a baby to like being in the car? C is 5 weeks old and she hates it. She just about always cries when we get in it, and 2/3 times she will continue crying for almost the whole trip (usually under 20 minutes). The other 1/3 she will cry and then settle or fall asleep, but it's rare. Today is was just about nap time, she'd eaten recently enough that she wasn't really hungry (though not totally full), and she screamed the whole time.

I can handle it for short trips but eventually we'll need to go visit my parents who live 5 hours away. I don't think she is uncomfortable in the seat, since she was fine when we had her in the snap and go base and were wheeling her around.

Any tips to help her like it, or at least tolerate it? Oh, and she will rarely take a paci. The only thing that seems to settle her a little is if I'm sitting in the back with her and put my pinky in her mouth, but I don't feel like that's very safe, since if we got rear ended I'm afraid I'd jab my finger into her.

I tried telling her that babies love the car and she wouldn't listen.
