I love a good cookie exchange, I used to host one every year. I would ask people to bring enough cookies for 3 per person - it was up to them to see how many people were coming. If people made bigger cookies, they brought less and gave out less.

We set all the cookies up on the dining room table. I asked people to bring an extra dish for serving their cookies and they used their tin they transported them in for taking the assortment.

When people arrived we have heavy appetizers and drinks. We hung out for about an hour and then sorted cookies. Everyone walked around the table and took a few from every platter. Some people brought recipes, some bagged their cookies.

It is so much fun! You should do it if you haven't already planned it. :)

@Ajsmommy: do a starter one this year with the neighbors you know, and do a bigger one next year with the whole neighborhood. Or do paper invitations and give the neighbors you know one extra and ask them to invite a neighbor they know to widen your circle a little.

We do one every year at work, we do one dozen per participant, packaged nicely for taking it home. This year there are 9 of us participating so I made 9 dozen (1 for myself to keep) and I get 8 dozen different cookies in return. It’s awesome because that is all of my Christmas treats done!

@autumnleaves: I like this idea... of incorporating something else, like an activity.

I just can't decide if I should host at my house with just the neighbors i know....or open it up to the whole new neighborhood and ask to hold it at the model home... (our clubhouse isn't built yet)

@Ajsmommy: I went to one a few years ago. We all took a different kind of cookie and the hostess supplied some savory snacks. It was fun!

I’ve participated in 2 through work - one at work and one at someone’s house. It was simple both times. We may have had copies of the recipe at 1 of them but I don’t think it’s necessary since not everyone likes printed recipes anymore. One person showed us how to make greeting cards - loved her cards. So you could tie it in with another activity or not. I think it’s great you are organizing one for the neighborhood.

I did one once and everybody baked enough that everybody took home 6 of each kind - depending on how many people you’re inviting 2 dozen might not be enough.

@Ajsmommy: I’ve only been to one and it was a long time ago but we all emailed the recipe we were making in advance and the host printed out cute little booklets for us to take home. She also had lots of savory snacks to balance the sweets which was smart!
