I'm very lucky because DH does the cooking. But we have run into the issue that the food is never ready when DD is ready to eat. We started saving some leftovers from the night before and giving those to her while DH cooks dinner. We also have bags of frozen veggies and fruit on hand in case we don't have food.

Dh and I are super busy (work+grad school+gym) and don't usually have time to cook during the week. We batch cook on weekends and throw something in the crockpot during the week. I put together 2 casserole type dishes, marinate some chicken for another night (we have an easy night like chicken and veggies) and we have a scrounge night. Sometimes we just have salad+rotisserie chicken from the grocery store. So, lots of foods don't requite typical "cooking".

You could also make things after your LO goes to bed. Last night i put together soup at 8pm and stuck it in the fridge for tonight. So all we have to do is heat it up!

@irene: LO either entertains himself or DH will play with him while I cook. I've also found LO is very, very curious about what I'm doing in the kitchen. If I put him in his chair, pull him up to the counter and give him a piece of food to play with he's cool.

I used to never cook, but then things changed once my LO got older. When my LO started to eat more solids, I made an effort to cook more often. It started out with just a few meals a week, and now I cook almost everyday. I am a SAHM and somehow make time to cook, but this would be impossible if I worked.

We get takeout more than we should. (we don't have kids!)

When I do cook, I really like using my slowcooker in the winter. I prepare everything right after dinner, throw it in the fridge and then start it up in the morning. It literally takes 20 seconds to get it from the fridge and warming up.

I put things in the slow cooker at night, because touching meat/veggies in the morning would totally make me gag and it saves a lot of time!

@Mrs. Pen: @keiki_mama: Cooking a large batch and freezing for the week -- that's what we used to do too.... BEFORE the baby!

What I want to know is, how do you do that when you need to entertain the baby on the side? Batch cooking + cleaning takes hours on the weekend, and I don't think LO would like that when we strap him down on his high chair for hours...!

DH and I work full time and we do not cook every night. I usually do a lot of cooking on the weekends and rely on my slow cooker on the weekdays. I also rely on my trusty rice cooker, which has a timer, to cook rice around dinner time. I make large batches of LO's food on the weekend and will do some light cooking for him on the weekdays.

No! And I'm a SAHM :-P

What about batch cooking on weekends? DS is 9 months old but already eating what we eat and I will often make larger batches of food that get him through the week..

-Squash
-peas
-green beans
- black/pinto/chickpea beans
- quinoa
-rice
- chicken
- beef
- soups
- berries
- fresh veggies/fruits

I usually have all of those things on hand to throw together an easy meal for him. If I didn't have time to cook, then I just eat after he goes to bed.

Do you cook every night? What do you do with dinner?

LO is now 10.5 months. Nanny feeds him dinner at around 5:15pm (I made porridge + other food for him every weekend and freeze them), and he goes to bed at 7:15pm. DH would then come home around 7:30 with our dinner bought from outside. It has been working well.

LO is going to daycare in a few weeks when he turns 1. This means I'll have to pick him up at 5 and give him dinner at 5:15. He probably will not be eating porridge for very long and will be graduating to eat grown up food. However, we just don't have time to cook! I usually work until 6pm everyday, and taking off at 5 is already a stretch that I'd have to see how it works. I don't think I can cook every day for his dinner because then I'd have to get off and start cooking at 4pm!

How do you guys do it? Any recommendations?
