@Crystal: I sctually just started coq10 (600mg) this week. When it runs out, I will probably switch to the ubiquinol form.

My RE suggested I take CoQ10, I think at 400 mg. Never heard of L-Carnitine.

Have you mentioned this to your RE? They will probably want to approve this as well.

I know when I was doing fertility acupuncture, my acupuncturist suggested i take herbs but she did make sure I ok'd it with my RE. My RE appreciated that I asked first because they wouldn't want other factors to affect their IUI or IVF outcome.

@Crystal: I'd be curious to hear what others take. I read to take 300 mg of ubiquinol (which is equivalent to 600 mg CoQ10) but I mistakenly took 600 mg the first miscarriage pregnancy when I didn't realize there was a different in potency. I then started taking the 300 mg for several months and decided to up the dosage to 500 mg ubiquinol back in October to see if that had any impact and again I got pregnant but miscarried. This past cycle I went back to 500 mg and I'm in my TWW but I think AF is coming. I should warn you that I think I ovulate a few days later on the ubiquinol and I think it affects my sleep so I have to take the entire dosage early in the day.

@Crystal: I was taking 600mg of CoQ10 and everywhere I read, that is a normal dose to assist with egg quality. I am now taking ubiqunol at 300mg because the container says that it is the equivalent of 600mg of CoQ10. I am almost 35 and it is supposed to be more easily absorbed.

It certainly doesn't hurt taking it. Also, it does take 3 months to see any improvement in egg quality due to how long it takes for eggs to develop.

eta - and I haven't heard of the other, but I think that @AMELIABEDILIA was taking the one that you mentioned?

@erinbaderin: I asked her to spell it out so I'm positive she said L-carnitine. The pills I found are either 500 or 1000mg, taking 3K seems like quite a lot.

@Shantuck: I've yet to try CoQ10 in my nearly 3 years of trying, I'll do anything at this point. What dosage did you take?

@Zbug: have you taken CoQ10?

@Crystal: I took coQ10 and gave my husband l-carnitine. But ultimately we needed IVF and a FET to get pregnant. I don't think anything I took before helped or hurt me. Also, I wouldn't trust an acupuncturist's recommendation for such pills. Ask your doctor. ETA: Good luck! :goodluck:

I take ubiquinol (which is the more easily absorbed version of CoQ10 for egg quality). I've been trying for just over a year and both pregnancies I've had (despite the miscarriages) occurred after having started the ubiquinol so I'm inclined to think it has helped me.

I took 800mg of CoQ10, but I also have never heard of l-carnitine. I was on l-arginine, do you think that's what your acupuncturist meant? I did eventually successfully conceive (successful IVF) and while I'm not sure the supplements helped, I certainly don't think they hurt.

My acupuncturist has recommended I start taking CoQ10 and L-Carnitine in what seem like large doses (600mg and 3000mg respectively). She believes this will help me (finally) be successful, and I really do trust her.

However, I looked them up last night, and most websites recommend much smaller doses, and recommend L-Carnitine for males (not females).

Can you share your experiences with either of these supplements and whether or not they helped you successfully conceive? What dosage did you take them at?
