We used a little alcohol because it was bleeding a little. I called the nurse and they recommended it. We waited for it to heal completely before giving DS a bath.

@Smurfette: K's umbilical cord fell off too today while my MIl was bathing her! Made me a little sad actually. IDK why. lol.
We were specifically told not to use alcohol - that it was an outdated thing.

@prettylizy: I like your breast milk tip! I'm going to do that during my next feeding!

When LO's cord fell off it left a little yellowish stump. Our Ped told us to clean it with alcohol once a day and to keep her in loose clothes. This was to help it dry out and heal up.

It used to be commonly recommended to use alcohol, now most doctors say not to as far as I know, just to leave it alone. I would ask @Mrs.Jacks!

we were told not to use alcohol, just wash it with soapy water when she was in the tub. I also put a little breast milk in it when it was oozing a little. Cleared right up!

I just washed it in the bath.
At a wellness checkup my pediatrician used alcohol to clean out some of the black that I couldn't get out.

R's cord fell off this afternoon. My Mom and Grandma were here, they said to clean it with rubbing alcohol or peroxide. Just out a little on q tip to hold off infection. The doctor didn't tell us to do anything when it fell off.

Did you do anything? We are going to wait till tomorrow night and do her first bath. She will be a week old tomorrow.
