The woman who runs the business still complained and tried to convince me not to cancel, saying her problem is that she's going to lose her employees if she doesn't have enough business because there's been an increased demand for cleaners for things like banks, grocery stores, offices staying open, etc and they will take those jobs. No agency, its her own business. I cancelled last week but paid her anyway - she was surprised and appreciative. My husband thought it was a waste and that she should have come, but I had the same concerns about what she could be bringing into our house. I'm essential personnel and still working out of home and bringing in lots of germs, but I've got a system in place to minimize that. We use a single woman and she has already reached out to say if we need anything let me know, I am guessing others are canceling and not paying her. I have a reminder set for Monday but leaning towards paying her but not having her come. I am 34 weeks pregnant and we are really trying to quarantine ourselves. She would never intentionally bring anything into our home but if she is cleaning other people’s houses it is a risk. They’re exposed to so many households. We use a cleaning service that sends 1-3 people at a time and the woman who owns the service is in quarantine for having cleaned the house of someone who tested positive so all her cleaning is cancelled. Not sure what I will do long term. I imagine that there are a lot of people who aren't comfortable with anyone outside of their immediate families in their homes at the moment. I also feel like I'm protecting her since she is in a higher risk category and she's had all sorts of health issues in the past. It will be tough to continue her pay, but I also feel bad if she won't be able to work at all! :bummed: </p> <p>At least my 7 year old likes to clean with me. DH called them, cancelled next weeks cleaning and got their address so we could still send our normal fee. I pray that fee makes it to the ladies. I was kind of weirded out by having 3 strangers in the house, not knowing their exposure. I'll be working from home too now, so it made the decision a little easier.</p> <p>We also have several projects going on, given the free weekend time with nowhere to go. This way I don't have to stow them for the cleaners! At this point I’m waiting to see what my cleaning lady wants to do - I haven’t heard from her yet. I think if she wants to come I will still have her, even though I don’t really need cleaning services at this time. I am able to clean myself now that I’m home. But she has young children and I know she might want the income. Also it would be nice to know everything was thoroughly cleaned biweekly. </p> <p>But like you said... she will be in lots of different houses, and does that diminish our social isolation efforts? She is very professional and I know will take extra precautions. I had assumed we’d keep it because cleaning seems necessary with the outbreak and extended time at home.
