@crazydoglady: it's in the Pre-K curriculum, but it didn't click for her until she stopped going to Pre-K. Just two weeks ago she couldn't get the hang of how letters make sounds, and suddenly she's reading labels and picking words out of books. I've been showing her letters and words for a long time, and writing words on whatever we're doodling, but she wasn't ready till she was ready!

@mrs.kiwi: we’re going to start tomorrow with my 2 year old. We weren’t going to do it until later this summer but we figured why not. I’m scared though, he’s a lot more stubborn than my older son.

I’m curious if anyone started potty training. I potty trained my youngest a couple months ago and now I am thinking I should have waited 😂 it’s the perfect time since we have no where to go right?

Great thread! Funny, but quarantine has done my kids some good. The baby started walking, the four-year-old learned to read, and the seven-year-old is learning to work with MS Office like a pro and beating his dad at chess.

My neighborhood facebook group has really stepped up with some awesomeness, when it used to be just a lot of hating on people for not cleaning up dog poop. People have put bears in their windows for kids "going on a bear hunt", there was a neigborhood singalong, someone started a little pantry instead of a little library for people needing food, and a local photographer offered to do free family photoshoots (she would stand on the sidewalk while you were on your porch, well over 6 feet away) if you donated to a local food bank. There's just generally been a lot of goodness on the internet, like doodling with Mo Willems, music classes, zoo tours, etc. It's been nice.

Our neighbourhood Facebook group has done scavenger hunts where people post things in their windows for kids to find on walks. Now it’s letter of the alphabet, silly faces, animals, shamrocks for st pattys day, etc.

I’m so glad my boys have each other. They are 5 and 18 mo and they have been getting along really well considering. I’m proud of my older for coming up with games little bro can play with him like chase and cars and stuff. Older likes to strip off his clothes to his undies like little bro in his diaper and they run around scream laughing. It’s so cute!

@caitcat: The kids having time together is the biggest  for me. My oldest is in 2nd and middle is going to kinder in the fall and they’re such buddies still. I hope they come out of this with really good memories of everything we did together even though it’s all little stuff. The 1yo obviously won’t remember anything but everyone is playing with her more too.

As part of my girls' bedtime routine, we each go around and say three things we're grateful for that day. Last night, my five year old said she was grateful for so many "stay home" days to play with her little sister. She said she likes preschool, but she really misses her sister when she's there. With kindergarten coming up next year, I'd been feeling sad about that kind of time changing, and I'm so grateful they have this time together now.

We also all kicked off this extended time at home last week with a nasty stomach bug that worked its way through the family, and we are finally all feeling better. So from that standpoint alone, this week is looking up!!

@Littlebit7: lol! :grin:

Our local towns are all creating facebook pages solely for helping each other. Tons of people are sewing face masks for medical personnel, or elderly / immune compromised who want them.
I also downloaded skype and now the kids can talk to their great-grandpa. We didn't get to see him very often with how busy life was, but this will let them get to talk more often.

We've lived on our house for six years and always talked about making a playhouse out of the structure in the backyard that used to house a hot tub. Yesterday we finally started working on it as a family.

I am way more clued in to my daughter's education and she does in class.

I've had a lot of fun with the kids letting them take the lead and doing what they want to do. DH has really engaged with them too.

DH and I had a virtual happy hour with our friends from college. I envisioned it would be total chaos with so many people but it was a lot of fun.

My boys have a lot more time for free play outdoors and their biking skills have just exploded in the last week! I've also had to let them be outside without me more than I ever would have done in the past. I've always dreamed of just sending them out to play without keeping a constant eye, but never actually done it until now. It'd be nice to continue in the future.

We have an alcove in our upstairs hall that is meant to be a small home office space. Right now it only the last three boxes we didn't unpack when we moved a year and a half ago, but since DH is indefinitely working from home we ordered a ready to assemble desk and will have to unpack those three boxes... so we will be officially 100% moved in!

There are so many challenges right now, but what are some of the good things either in your home or in your community that you're seeing?

-Even though working from home full time is HARD with the kids, I'm enjoying getting to read a story, snuggle or play a quick game with the kids throughout the day. I feel like I'm getting back time with them which I gave up when I transitioned from part time to full time 3 years ago.
-My street has a Facebook group where we are sharing books, asking for people to post any needs they have.
