I think it worked out that they listened!

I probably might have let it go if we weren't gonna be there for long, but you totally did the right thing and I think the teacher voice helped

Good for you!! It's annoying when the caregiver(s) aren't paying attention at all.

I think that's fine!

I had to tell kids (10-12yrs old) to watch out for the little kids. They were playing hide and go seek with their eyes closed on the park structure. They were plowing kids down. They said sorry... Then continued to do it. I gave a look once more and the sister got them to stop, lol!

That was a great way to get them to listen to you...compliment & a request.

I've stepped in before to prevent a kid from being destructive or messy. It's usually when their parent isn't paying attention and a little attention and direction goes along way.

I definitely scolded a tween at my sister's pool this summer. He was throwing a football while in the pool and had already hit someone with it. He threw it really hard to someone who was close by, it bounced off them and hit me in the head. My sister said "watch it, she's pregnant!". I was super pregnant and he goes "good, it'll knock some sense into the baby". I told him what was up and said no more football in the pool. He was there with an aunt or family friend who clearly wasn't supervising. Totally embarrassed my sister! haha

I have had to tell bigger kids to watch out for the little ones, like 5-6 years olds running off energy after school and just not noticing the 1-2 year olds. Their parents or grandparents were there and just paying no attention.

And I snapped and yelled at a kid who was yelling at my 2 year old. He was being a little punk and really yelling at her. I probably should have been calmer but whatever. Don't know where his parent was.

@Mae: Definitely, our play area at the mall is a mess, sad but it is just a war zone!

@gracecat: There were no parents around, I honestly think if there was I probably would have just left, it was a small park I couldn't go far enough away!

It is so weird to have to say something to other kids! I try to avoid it but there has been a time or two at the play area in our local mall where some older kids (who are way too big to be playing in there anyways per the height restriction) sprint around and knock the little kids down/climb over them. I've totally told a few they need to watch where they are going and not plow down the toddlers. Gotta do what you got to do!

For the first time today I felt like I had to say something to another child in my child's defense DD is 13 months!

At the park there was a group of 4 boys ages 6-10
They were throwing mulch saying
Butt hole, a** munch etc...

They were running ramped throwing mulch from the top of every slide and across the park.... I finally in my "teacher" voice said "Hey boys she is watching everything you do since you are older and cooler can you please set a good example and not yell those words and keep the mulch on the ground!

They were sweet and changed their tone quick!

I just felt odd.....
