For us, I think we will try putting her back in the crib when she becomes too active. She's almost 5 mo and still in the merlin suit, so she doesn't move much when she sleeps so I just make sure to block off the edge of our bed with my long body pillow and I put the pnp next to the bed also just in case (more to prop up the body pillow).

Do you have a monitor in your room too? I'm struggle with moving the monitor back & forth between rooms, or biting the bullet to get a 2nd monitor..

@mrskc: I understand your point, but I don't think pillows on the floor are a suffocation hazard to the same extent as pillows in the bed. My pillows were the chair pads off my Ikea Poang, so they were padded but firm, not a fluffy down-filled pillow. We had ceramic tile floors at the time. Even a 10-inch or so drop is a pretty big fall for a small baby, and I didn't want LO dropping onto a hard floor.

Also, I echo the sentiments above that until they can safely get down on their own, you need to stay close by. I padded the floor, but we didn't rely very much on that precaution.

@junebugsmama: My daughter sleeps with us in the bed at night. We didn't want to put our bedroom mattress on the floor, so we ended up taking down the crib and putting a twin on the floor. So she naps on that and I can just nurse her or lay next to her until she falls asleep then roll away. She 8 months right now. I also put up a bed rail on my bed for nighttime, because she either sleeps in the middle or edge of the bed depending on which side she is nursing on.

pillows around the floor would make me nervous until baby can really crawl & move around well. I'd rather her just fall on the carpet. But since the mattress is on the floor, it's not a long drop.

My son napped in our bed. You need to 1) perfect your ninja bed-escape moves, and 2) probably put the mattress on the floor and pad the surrounding floor area with pillows once he starts to roll, especially if you don't have carpet. (You don't really have to be all that ninja. Once my son conked out for the nap, I just got up. ;) )

If completely redecorating your bedroom for cosleeping isn't your thing, I'm sure that you could get some of those bed rails that they sell for toddler beds. If you want to redecorate, Ikea sells excellent, inexpensive floor buffer pillows (although I don't think they call them that!).

@Woolly Mammoth: I think we will have to do that for sure if this ends up being a regular thing. I am finally trying to accept that only constant is that things these babies like they may hate and vice versa, so there's that!

My 19 month old still naps on our bed. If possible, I would suggest setting up a mattress on the floor for naps, because it's really nerve-wracking once they learn how to roll over or crawl but before they can safely climb down from the bed.

My baby is currently in the 4m sleep regression (wahhh).

Last night finally went better, but so far cosleeping has been the only that makes it manageable. I am still not fully on board with cosleeping, ideally, he will start doing his first long stretch again (instead of like 10pm first wake up and never back to sleep unless held) in his crib, and then he'll be in bed with me from 4-5 on. I love cosleeping on the nights that it goes well, but some nights he seems to be so unsettled.

Because he's been sleeping much better on our bed, on a whim yesterday I tried nursing him to sleep for a nap on the bed (side lying and then snuck away). And he magically slept for over 90 min, I mopped and cleaned the kitchen and bathroom, and it was amazing! Normally he's been nursing to sleep, and I set him in his crib, and about half the time he wakes up immediately and half the time he wakes up in 30-45 min in a cranky mood. I did it again today after I couldn't get him to settle nursing or rocking him in the nursery and he's almost at 90 min again, alone on our bed! He doesn't roll yet, but I have pillows around the edges, he's swaddled, and he's in the middle of our cal king.

So assuming this may be my new go to method of getting a nice nap out of him, what are the logistics for naps, cosleepers of the hive? I know everything may change in the next few weeks as he gets through this damn sleep regression . Hopefully for the better!

Thanks for reading :)
