Our cats slept with us (well the one that usually slept with us). She just slept on DH. She used to sleep on my stomach but that got hard when I got big and my sleep went to shit. She got used to sleeping on him instead.

I kicked the dogs out of the room when I was pregnant the first time. We have fairly big dogs and the one has no sense of his space, which made me very uncomfortable to add a LO to that mix so he's not even allowed in the room when she's sleeping. They adjusted though there were some tears but it was while I was pregnant and not once the baby came.

I woke up to my cat laying on top of DS one morning and freaked (DS was fine). I just told her over and over not to go near the baby, very gently. I'd pick her up and hold her a lot at first. She got it. If your cats aren't the aggressive type I'm sure they'll be fine.

We only cosleep occasionally, but our 3 cats and 1 dog have zero interest in sleeping even remotely close to the baby. They will either space themselves on the far corners of the bed or avoid it completely. When he's in his own bed, they are back to sleeping all over us.

We've never had the need to shut them out of any part of the house, they coexist well, but aren't bff's with him either.

BTW- I have found that cosleeping is the perfect way to get more room in the bed... my husband gets kicked in the face, and he sleeps elsewhere, then I'm just sharing with a 25 pounder ;)

We got a king size bed in anticipation of co-sleeping, knowing the dog + us took up the whole bed as it was. Now with the baby we all share the bed. Baby in the middle of me and DH, dog at the foot of the bed. Sometimes the cat curls up at the foot of the bed too.

My cat slept on the outer side of the bed and LO was in a sleeper between DH and I. He also likes the dresser at the foot of the bed. Wasn't an issue because my cats totally avoided E. still do

Our cat sleeps with us, always has and (hopefully!) always will. LO was in a co-sleeper between us when she was little, now she's just between us. Kitty sleeps usually at the foot of the bed, sometimes at LO's feet (so, around our calves/knees). Our cat has never, ever tried to even get close to LO, let alone sleep on her. She has zero interest in stealing LO's warms.

We kicked the dogs out of bed :( It makes me sad BUT we got them really nice beds in our room, and when we say 'Go to bed!' they go hop in. They rest there a lot during the day, so I honestly don't think they minded too much.

We cosleep with our pets. It hasn't been an issue but we have a small dog not a cat. He also tries to find the place he will be least disturbed. Which is now at the kids feet.

We cosleep with our pets... It wasn't the plan to have LO in bed but it just sorta happened and the dogs/cat just adjusted accordingly. I didn't want to kick the pets out of bed because it was already an adjustment for them with a new baby and I didn't want to rock their world too much. One dog sleeps at my feet. One sleeps in the middle of DH and I at LOs feet and the cat sleeps at DH's feet if he sleeps with us. Be he doesn't always

@luckypenny: what about if there was a Moses basket bassinet in the middle of my husband and I? I don't think my cats will ever stop crying :(

I don't have pets but I wouldn't feel comfortable with them sleeping in bed with us, especially with LO under 1. They could suffocate them :( could you kick them out now and maybe by the time LO arrives they won't cry anymore?

So how does cosleeping work if you have pets? I have several cats and every night without fail they are on my side of the bed snuggled up to me. Really it's cute, but I can't imagine adding a baby to that mix. Do you kick out the cats and risk having them cry at the door all night? Or shut the baby in their room and just don't cosleep?
