Thanks, all!! It seems like maybe I can just wait and see then. Hopefully, she won't try to her off the bed when she wakes up!

@Zbug: mine is 10 months and we co-bed. We had rails for a bit (which did work well) but then I just bought a low frame with the intent of having it not injure her if she fell, and teaching her to climb in and out.

My LO is nine months, and we still co bed. We surround her with pillows and use the monitor, and like the PP babies she cries when she wakes. Also in the last few weeks she seems to understand the edge. She crawls to the edge, puts her hand over, and backs up. She also learned how to get off the bed on one side where we have a dog bed.

We put pillows around him and when he would start to awaken I'd go check on him. He usually just sat up in bed and started to cry. He didn't actually try to get off the bed.

LO is ten months, crawling and cruising, and we are still bed sharing. We go to bed as a family, as my husband and I like getting to the bedroom early to read or Netflix, and LO is a bit of a night owl, by baby standards (9pm). However, if we are to leave LO in the bed on her own, we just set up a few pillows and turn the monitor on. She's actually quite good at announcing that she's awake - she will literally wait for us at the foot of the bed calling, "Ma!" We try to prompt her to get off our bed, arm chair, and couch feet first, so hopefully she picks that up, down the line.

Depending on how long you would like to continue cosleeping, I'd look into rails or consider rearranging the bed to be snug against a wall, if budding mobility makes you nervous.

Maybe pushing her crib right up to your bed would work. Safety for her, proximity for you??

@Zbug: How high is your bed? We taught LO how to get off the bed. We would start even before she could get off by herself so that she knew she had to use her feet first to get off. We never had any issues with her falling off once she was mobile.

We never used rails, but one side of the bed had her crib attached to it, so she couldn't fall off of that end anyway. If you're worried I'd get the rails or transition to the crib (unless you want to keep co-sleeping).

DD is almost 8 months, and we are cobedding. She usually goes to bed around 7/7:30, and we join her a few hours later. She knows how to roll but doesn't move around much while sleeping. I do use a monitor and put pillows on the edge of the bed, but she's never even come close to them. I'm thinking this will have to change when she starts crawling. One idea I had was to transition her to the crib until we are in bed/her first wakeup. I'm nervous about how this will go though. Should I start transitioning her now before she starts crawling? Or put rails on our bed?

How did/do you cosleep with a crawler or walker?
