I had a 10mm overbite. As an adult, I would consider what other damage could happen if I didn't get them. I know it was pretty expensive for my parents, but we were told it would cause problems in the future if it wasn't done. I know my insurance covers 60%, so I'd get them if needed. I've always been very self conscious of my smile. It was actually kind of a deal-breaker for me. I told my DH I wouldn't be having kids until after I did it....because I knew if we waited until after we had kids we'd never really be comfortable spending such a large amount of money on it. I'm halfway through and so happy I did it. </p> <p>I know it's a lot of money, but I feel like you'll be happy you did it once you start seeing results. Especially if your teeth are being damaged! I don't really know the specifics, but I think if you bite is way off, the teeth would rub against each other and wear away at the enamel, which would lead to bigger problems down the road. The jaw being misaligned can cause TMJ, headaches, etc. </p> <p>I did Invisalign in my 20s mostly for cosmetic reasons. I was super self conscious about my smile, despite having braces as a kid (which is why you should always wear your retainer :( )I'm really glad I did, but I was young and single. You can ask them outright if its cosmetic or necessary.
