I have one other photographer to check out before I book this, but I think I'm just going to go with her and hopefully I can purchase the unedited copies or something like that.

This is the one that we'd need if my Husband were home, his ex-wife won't let me include my Step-daughters which would bring us to a total of 7 people.

Enhanced Family Portrait Package $400
2 hours of on location shooting for up to 8 people
20 edited images on a CD with full printing rights
$100 print credit

@Rainbow Sprinkles: 60 images, holy smokes!! I was hoping for at least 25 photo's since I'll be sending a lot of them to my husband.

@My Only Sunshine: We're in the Pacific Northwest, eveything seems to be higher here so I'm sure that's part of it ;)

@PurplePeony: Oregon, I found most photographers offered at least 25 images, but this is the only really great local one that won't charge extra for travel time (because she's local).

@locavore_mama: I'm most definitely not in a big city ;)

@MrsH: I'm kind of clueless when it comes to this, what do you mean less print credit?

@Cole: I love that way of thinking, good idea thank you!

@pui: Sounds like you got a great deal!
Here's her maternity shoot package -
Enhanced Maternity Package $400

@gingerbebe: That's what I was thinking, I'd love to get the unedited copies, I wonder if I could talk to her about that...

@birdofafeather: Thank you, it's nice to hear what other photographers offer their clients!

@Smurfette: I'll have to inquire about the cost of additional prints.

Our family shoot a few weeks ago was $150 for an hour outdoor shoot, with 30 images on a cd and full rights to print them as we wish. I think it depends a lot on location. Ours were incredible and done by a woman who does this for her carreer, so not an ammature.

I think it sounds good.

Our photographer charges $125-$150 a session (4 people). If you spend $300 in prints then you get the disk of all the pictures.

We did a baby package, 4 sessions for $400. We only have to spend $200 each time to get the disk.

Sounds good to me. As a photographer, I will sometimes have the option for clients to receive a limited number of images via digital download but it's their choice of images. I would have about 30 of the best in a gallery and they select their top 10 or whatever. If they want more, they can purchase more!

You'd want at least 25-30 images for that rate. We had like 70-80 edited images with full rights from our 1-hour engagement session with our wedding photographer for $250. I realize with kids/more people that's harder to accomplish, but really 10 is too low.

I'd probably expect double that amount of photos, personally. Do you get to choose which photos you get? I recently paid $200 for an hour maternity shoot with 30ish edited photos, plus ALL the photos she took in a digital format (60 or so images total. This was a little special case for me since I am capable of editing photos myself). To be fair, I selected about 6 of those photos to put in my baby book, so you only really NEED 10 I guess.

Around here 1 hour family sessions are $250 including digital rights (30 pics or so) for most reputable family photogs.

I don't think it's terrible but I would ask about the cost for more images or skipping the credit in favor of more images or fifteen more minutes of time taking photos or something. I also would want to know how the ten that you get are selected. I feel like the only advantage of them offering ten as opposed to all or the bulk of the photos is so they don't have to edit all of them (but I could be totally wrong on that) and I would want to pick the ones that I got good copies of.

Looking back on my wedding photos I am surprised at which ones are my favorite now as opposed to then, some are the same but now others are more important to me. I could see that being the same with family photos. Right now the one of your kid melting down might just make you grumpy you paid a lot and it became stressful but in five years it might be your favorite because of the pouty lip that was a standard for two years.

I don't think that's too high. That's $22.50 per image, and includes the photographers transportation, time and editing.

I bet it takes her more than an hour to edit, plus her hour of time to photograph you. so with a price of $225, she's not making much at all.

We usually pay closer to $350 for a 1-hour shoot with a min of 25 edited images on a CD with priniting rights. The photog I usually use is really cool though, and will typically include all of the good shots on the CD; she just guarantees that there will be at least 25.

I think it's high for just 10 images. I'd expect more from a good photographer at that price, and I'm in the DC area. Ish is expensive here.

I'm in the midwest - that seems reasonable. Not only is she giving you a credit but also giving you printing rights for the images. Perhaps you could ask for less print credit and more images?

We're having photos done on Saturday and it's $450 for a one-hour on-location shoot with a minimum of 25 high-res photos with print release. No print credit. So, while I agree 10 isn't very many, the pricing seems consistent with what I was finding. But, I don't know what market you're in so it might be high for your area...

I'm in the northeast (NJ) and that's kinda high to me. Our photog sessions are usually an hour plus and we get all the edited images (usually 50-100) on a cd for around $150. And she's a GREAT photographer.

I think it depends what part of the country (and probably which country) you're in. I'm in suburban Midwest and $200 per session seems to be the average rate here. I think we were guaranteed 10 pictures, but she sent more if there were more that turned out cute. I think we got like 15.

Realistically, I only needed a few for frames around the house and our Christmas card so only getting 10 wouldn't bother me too much.

One thing to keep in perspective is in 1 hour, you won't have a million poses to choose from anyhow. 10 pictures doesn't sound like a lot, but I want to say that is how many *great* photos our photographer took, even though she delivered a disc of around 40. She charged us around $200 for a 1 hr session.

10 photos really doesn't seem like very many. For that price, I would want at least 25. At least.

I'm a total slacker and haven't had any family pictures done, it's time. I was pricing them and the one I love seems high to me. She'd come to our location, here's the description -

Basic Family Portrait Package $225
1 hour of on location (within 15 miles) shooting for up to 4 people
10 edited images on a CD with full printing rights
$50 print credit

Do you think that is steep? I'm stuck on the 10 photos part ;)
