My LO had this horribly over the winter! It's the worst! I would also recommend raising one side of the mattress so her head is elevated and a spoonful of honey before bed (assuming baby is older than 1). If it gets reallly bad there is a cough medicine that can be prescribed although the drs really dont want to give them something at that age...

@illumina: aw thanks- just saw this.

Update- she's doing much better. I think the humidifier did help just make her throat feel soothed. Now it's just the gross drippy nose. Ick.

We do a steamy bath/shower then saline and snot sucker. I also picked up some essential oils so using those for healing. The coughing hasn't woken her up yet and she's had a deep cough.

I give a dose of ibuprofen. I find it helps her muscles relax a bit and eases the coughing.

Then I can sleep!

I think it takes a while before it feels super humid - and it also depends how dry it is to begin with. My lo also has a cold, and we tried raising the mattress and she just crawls to the lower end and sleeps sideways, so I guess she likes being flat haha. Her cough is worse at night too, but we haven't found a solution yet. Nose frida right before bed helps a bit, along with the other things you mentioned.

Blah, coughing when you lay them down is such a bummer, but I think it's pretty normal. DD is a crazy sleeper also, I miss the days when elevating her bed was an option! I would stick w/what you're doing, it's fine if it doesn't feel like a rain forest in there.

charlie has had a cough for the past week and a half and it is much worse at night. he's fine in the day.

what really helps is to stand in the bathroom with a hot steamy shower running. i also put some eucalyptus oil in a cup in there. really helps clear things up before bedtime.

C has had a little cold for almost a week. It's really not bad as far as illnesses go, just runny nose (bothers me way more than her), occasional coughing during the day, but more coughing during the night. During the day I'm just using the saline spray when she seems exta congested, and the snot sucker a couple of times when it seemed really uncomfortable- she hates it so I reserve it for when it's needed.

But at night she coughs more and it sounds terrible- though it hardly wakes her. Tonight I put baby Vicks on her feet under her socks, and borrowed a friends humidifier. Are there any other tricks to help her feel better at night? Raising the head of the crib isn't an option because she is a crazy girl all over her crib before settling down so her head would end up on the wrong end anyway.

Also with the humidifier, should it feel drastically more humid? Went in there an hour after she went to sleep and it's a bit more humid but not dramatic.

Thanks!
