@travellingbee: My daughter had the same symptoms as your son (though maybe a bit fussier) and constant green, mucousy poop. I saw NO change in her symptoms after I eliminated dairy, soy, and eggs for the entire 6 months that I EBFed. I was very strict about my diet too (I have celiac disease, so I'm used to being very vigilant about trace amounts). I didn't definitively know that she was intolerant to dairy and eggs (but not soy) until she started having solids and she broke out into hives after having a small amount of each. She outgrew both sensitivities by 16 months.

@JoyfulKiwi: Gotcha. OK. I want to at least have a few days of information about what his poop is like before I go back to the doctor but I will ask about a stool sample test when I go. T hanks!

@travellingbee: hmm, I'd keep a food/poop diary, but reaction times vary is what I've been told. It could be a different intolerance, like eggs or soy. Or completely food unrelated. You can always have the pediatrician check for microscopic amounts of blood. If it's a good thing, they'd probably be there, versus a random event or reaction to a vaccine.

Thanks all. I think I will keep a "poop diary" ha ha and see what the pattern is, before jumping to any conclusions.

@travellingbee: oh ok I see. I wouldn't be overly concerned then. If you continue to see it I would try eliminating dairy again. Babies have explosive poop and can have a small streak of blood in their poop for a variety of reasons.

@travellingbee: in that case I would say food intolerance is very likely. Every kid is a little different but for example in our case the soy reaction (rash) was always very delayed (days later) and then took even longer to clear up. So I would investigate it further... Could be another allergen as well, like eggs or shellfish or who knows. I think the kellymom site has a list of most common allergens. But the green poop and rash indicate food issue to me.

@winniebee: well I meant we didn't have blood at all back then, not even before I eliminated. We've only seen blood for a few days after his rotavirus vaccine and then today.

@travellingbee: I would say probably some form of intolerance because of the blood and skin issues. Gas and mucous in blood never got our GI doc going. My thought is even if you removed dairy for 2 weeks (and not just overt dairy), it still takes 2 more weeks to clear baby's system. So maybe that's why you saw no blood but continued skin issues.

@Baby Boy Mom: 11 weeks
@JoyfulKiwi: I did do a strict two weeks and didn't notice any difference but he wasn't having blood in his stool then. Just gas and rash and occasional mucus stool.

How old is your LO? A common age for them to start to really outgrow symptoms is 14 months or so. Then again my 3 year old (!!!) still has some sensitivity. My older LO also had food intolerances that got better at the year mark but it is years later and even though we don't consider him having an "allergy" per se, it's just not the greatest thing for his body KWIM?

My little girl has your list exactly! When I saw blood, I emailed our pediatrician. She said eliminate dairy and eggs for two weeks completely, even hidden forms & then well test for blood in her stool. I'm not even through week one yet and her symptoms seem the same, minus streaks of blood. But I think it takes at least 2 weeks to see a real change. So, I'd say it could be a food intolerance. Maybe try a very strict dairy-free diet for 2+ weeks and see what happens?

My first son had mspi. My daughter has other protein intolerances. For her corn seems to be there biggest culprit. So I wouldn't discount it but it may be harder. She is a happy girl and growing well so many people don't believe me that she has issues.

I'm totally confused. Here is my list of concerns versus why it seems less likely...

Might be MSPI-
He's a pretty gassy baby
His poops have been off and on weird. At times green and mucusy with (very occasional) streaks of blood
He has a recurrent face rash that looks like baby acne. It is much better than when he was littler but it still comes back here and there.

Might not be-
He's generally happy and not particularly fussy.
He sleeps well
He doesn't spit up nearly as much as my first (although still does several times a day)
His gas is helped tremendously by gas drops.
I haven't seen a drastic change when I have eliminated or added back dairy.

Any thoughts???? I saw some blood again today in his diaper (very very small amount) and now I am confused again. Not sure what to do...
