Head engagement is not indicative of labour starting early. You can be engaged for weeks, especially with your first.

Having bub so low is super uncomfortable, take it easy and rest up!

i think it could go either way. it sounds like since he could feel the babys' head, that you are probably highly effaced. but even being highly effaced doesn't mean labor is near necessarily. i was about 80% effaced at 34 weeks, 4-5cm dilated at 37 weeks and i delivered naturally at 38 weeks. but i didn't have contractions. in any case, definitely take it easy and rest! Hopefully the baby will cook for another month at least!

I don't have any answer, but good thoughts your way! I ALWAYS forget to ask the obvious questions when I'm at the doctor - it's like my mind just goes blank in their presence.

Hi ladies, ok so earlier this week I posted this post:

http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/contractions-or-lightening-crotch-or#post-2528003

Well last night I was kept awake with the same discomfort/pain accompanied with backache. So this morning I called my OB's Office & they told me to come in. They monitored me & saw that was I having contractions so I was seen by the next available OB & he checked me. He told me I was not dilated but he could feel his head. Since I was not dilated he sent me home with instructions to take a dose of Procardia for the contractions & to take it super easy. Was told if the contractions/discomfort in vag & bum area did not lighten up or got worse then to go to L&D. So my question is, if the doctor can feel the baby's head does that mean labor is near? Or can a baby drop 7 weeks before delivery? What was your experience?! He did not use the term "thinning" or "effacing" just said "You aren't dilated but the baby's head is right there" I wish I would have asked but of course I don't think of questions till I leave.

ETA: I will be 33 weeks tomorrow.
