I couldn’t tell, but my doctors always could. LO’s head was pointed down. Thinking back on it I probably should have figured it out since all his body movements were on the middle to upper part of my belly.

I can't really tell but my pregnancy is high risk so I get ultrasounds every two weeks. My presenting twin has been cephalic for awhile now, and her sister has consistently been transverse.

My son was head down for most of the pregnancy and I could tell bc his butt was sooooo skinny, it would poke out of my stomach in a literal box shape. He had hiccups every.single.day, still doest was basically in my throat so I never felt them in the "birth canal vicinity".

With my first I had an anterior placenta (and I was 15) I had not a clue. Second baby I could tell because kicks were super down low and hiccups were up high. Third baby I ended up with a bunch of ultrasounds to check position because even my much seasoned midwife had a hard time telling lol. 4th I had a pretty good idea of where he was, he went head down relatively early and had his back on my right side.

I had access to ultrasound at work during my pregnancy with my LO. Seeing his movements a few times made it much easier to correlate what I was feeling. I always had a very clear idea of positions and movement.

I could tell pretty well because of the constant hiccups - and he still gets lots of hiccups. Hope she has turned!

I had a low posterior placenta with my son. I knew exactly where he was for at least the last 12-14 weeks; I was able to confirm from 31 weeks on too because I had weekly ultrasounds (yay complications). He was transverse with his head on my right side and butt on my left side with his legs folded over kicking himself in the forehead fairly often. Then he turned breech at 37 weeks, then head down at 38, and then beech again at 39 when I had my c section. I had so much extra fluids I was measuring 5 weeks ahead of schedule from 31 weeks on, so he had plenty of room to move.

With my first my midwife showed me how she felt her and where the head and back and bum were. Once she was head down she didn’t move very much so I’m pretty sure I could tell exactly how she was (she kept her legs up under my right rib cage and kicked me after every meal).

With my second she definitely moved around a lot more and I was convinced she was sideways for a while, but she got to head down and the midwife felt it and there was no problem with delivery. So I have no idea if any of my guesses were right.

I couldn’t tell with my first (she’d flipped herself breech and I had no idea!) but I could definitely tell with the other two and could feel the spine, bum and feet.

Yes! My first moved all around, and I could feel it and see a difference in my shape. I was more square than round, and my yoga teacher used me as a learning example for our class. She was so high up and I felt it! Second was low early on, and oooh baby, I felt that, too.

I had no clue and just felt kicks EVERYWHERE. He was sunny side up which no one knew for sure until the c-section. That is except for the first (very horrible, no good) midwife who I saw in L&D triage who told me he was sunnyside and then mocked me for wanting a painkiller-free induction. The thing I’ve always wondered is how did she — and no one else — know?!

@LBee: that is what I am thinking is true for me too, I’m just making it up! And it’s pretty easy to guess head down when most babies are head down by a certain point ...

@MamaBear87: #1 posterior, #2 anterior (which did dampen movement some but I wonder if it was partial or something because I could still feel it early) and #3 posterior (and I feel this baby alllll the time in big ways so I think it’s the least in the way so far)

No clue, ever! Even if I felt a big round bump, I couldn't tell if it's the head or the bum, and I couldn't tell knees from elbows either!

I had an anterior placenta both times and not only could I not tell, nobody could tell. With my first baby my midwives has been telling me for weeks that he was head down and all good to go, and I kept poking him in what I assumed was his bum, up under my ribs, to make him move. Then at 39 weeks I got sent for an ultrasound because they thought he’d stopped growing and the tech was like “ok, so he’s breech, and-“ and I was like “Wait, WHAT?!?!” Turns out we’d been poking him in the head for weeks. With my second, again, a midwife told me he was head down, but I was pretty sure she was wrong because everything felt exactly the same and when I went for an ultrasound to check my fluids I was right.

I had an anterior placenta and couldn't really tell. I kept thinking she was breech because I could feel hiccups near my ribs but turned out she just moved alot when hiccup ing and it was her feet bumping into me.

My friend had a posterior placenta and you could tell exactly what was feet, hands, etc. I was super surprised at the difference

Where have your placentas been located?

just curious!

with my first two, I thought they were probably head down when I could feel lots of hiccups waaaaaay down there. I was pretty sure I could feel my son's bum up top at the end (but I may be totally wrong about what I was feeling!). I never had an ultrasound after 20w so just guessing.

this one has been breech which wasn't a surprise because I felt all the kicks down low. I've just started (at 30w) feeling a lot more up top and wondering if she flipped. this time I'm having growth ultrasounds monthly so we'll see if I'm right in two weeks! she doesn't have as many hiccups so that method isn't working.

could you tell head up/down or anterior/posterior as you got further along?
