I think DH and I could do 300 or so feet, assuming it has a good layout. I like the less is more concept. It was a guest house to a main house and even though it was probably 100 years old it was renovated. We made it work for the year, but after that couldn't take the lack of space. The enclosed porch and crawl space were our only saving graces in terms of storage but they were unusable in terms of living space. We had no outdoor area as we were so close to the street. It was super awkward to have friends/family over because it was basically 3 rooms with doorways and the front room was the bedroom, then living room, then kitchen/bathroom. I like to sew and do diy craft projects and it was near impossible to store or work on anything that took longer than a couple of hours. Also there was no closets so we had to bring in large wardrobes just to have a place to store our clothes and winter gear. But uh...it wouldn't be good for our sanity, heh.</p> <p> I think the whole concept behind "micro houses" is genius. We have a serious consumer debt problem in this nation and having to have "more" all the time is certainly an issue. I couldn't live that small with kids but could probably have fit DH in ok.<br /> My apartment after that was twice as big and was such a waste. The kitchen was big but somehow had no storage or counter space.<br /> I prefer small living. It was actually a two bedroom too. I loved it! The layout was super efficient. The second apartment was 800sq ft and was where we lived when lo1 was a baby. It felt luxuriously large! But the layout has a lot more wasted space. </p> <p>I love the concept of tiny houses and all but I'm too claustrophobic! Other than that, we had outdoor living space, we were a 5 minute walk to the beach and we hosted a ton of parties in our long shared driveway. We will always look back at that time with fondness!</p> <p>BUT, I like having a space to host. We will never live in a huge place (because we live in CA and don't make a million bucks) but the really tiny places kinda make me cuckoo. And yes to PPs who mentioned having to get up in a loft to sleep all the time. For the longest time, OH and I wanted to live in an RV which is less than 400 sq ft. I need at least 300 with kids, 230 with just OH and 180 if it were just me. OH and I can peacefully coexist without issue in our RV for a few days now and it is only 78 sq ft.
