Yup, I could tell when the hiccups moved from down low to up under my ribs that she had turned breech. She never flipped back over...but I had a good c-section experience!

I could tell b/c there was a *big* lump up higher on my belly -- that was her butt. Also the strongest "kicks" happened up at the top of my belly. I only got little (but lethal) punches down low to my bladder. That was her hands, or maybe she was head butting me.

I could tell by the hiccups and was pretty sure where her butt was (lodged up in my ribs). Her kicks were always on one side, so I told the tech I though she was upside-down "L" shaped, and was confirmed I was right!

@grizz: Sounds about right! I was so scared that it would be like that the rest of my pregnancy and I had so much more to go! But after she turned I didn't feel any more rib pain.

the only clue i had that he was heads down was insane pressure in my pelvic area. at one point my doc thought he was breech because it felt like his 'kicks' were in my pants! but it turns out he was just punch the crap out of me haha

I had no idea. I had what I thought was awful rib pain to the point that I was in tears one night. The next day I had an OB apt so I told my doctor about it hoping for a solution and she told me that pain was probably the baby turning, and then she felt around and told me she had turned.

I could never tell those things though. I never knew what was what when LO was kicking or punching.

Yep. I could tell when baby flipped back from breech to head down...partly because I felt/saw the flip happen (at 32.5 weeks), but also because the movement changed and I could once again feel kicks up high. My midwife had also shown me how to distinguish the head from the bum, so I could tell that the head for no longer up around my ribs!

It got easier to tell once I got to my 3rd trimester. When she was breech I had a lot of pelvic pain, rib pain and just overall a lot of body aches. Once she flipped the pelvic pain got better, the kicks definitely stayed up top and usually away from my ribs--thank goodness, and the hiccups stayed low. Now at 38 weeks I can feel her butt and little feet sometimes when she's stretching.

My OB seems unconcerned about my baby's position. Still, I did some googling and found a few pages, like this one, with some tips.

http://pregnancy.thefuntimesguide.com/2008/09/baby_position_in_womb.php

I think I can feel my baby's butt or backbone, and I occasionally feel something i think could be hiccups, really low in my belly. So that makes me assume she's vertex with her front facing my back. Totally guessing tho..

I'm only 28 weeks, but I sure can't tell. I feel bulges and rub them thinking 'no idea if this is your head or your butt, but I'm gonna rub it all the same!' hehee. She feels like she is curled up in a ball, and sort of sideways. It's weird!

I couldn't tell either. I asked during a weekly appointment. My OB did a quick ultrasound to see. I got to see that he was head down for myself.

I could when she hiccupped. I could feel the hiccups and then I could feel her bumping down near my pelvic region. She was pretty much head down from 20 weeks on though so it wasn't super hard to figure out where she was.

I've been making myself crazy wondering if my little breech baby is going to turn around by the May 1 date my OB wanted to see him head down. I think I'm pretty optimistic that he's head down now! When he was breech I was having really bad rib pain. Now I can breathe, I feel kicks up very high, and hiccups down close to my hip bones. The lump under my ribs now feels more like a hiney than a head :) Crossing fingers he's vertex now!
