They are definitely 2 separate mental processes. Reciting numbers is called forward number sequencing. Counting objects is counting a quantity. She doesn't quite get counting objects yet. I haven't really taught her numbers, but I'm trying to remember the last time we played hide and seek--sometimes she counts really fast and I shout out for her to keep counting.
