DS is a little over 2yo and he can count to 20 pretty consistently. (1/5 times he might mess up).
Counting objects I think the most he's counted to correctly is 6.

Ds can count to 10. He is 2.5. He can count objects kind of but gets confused and just starts looking back through the objects, often ending at 6 no matter how many there are, haha.

Interesting note about counting versus counting objects. They are definitely 2 separate mental processes. Reciting numbers is called forward number sequencing. Counting objects is counting a quantity. DS can do both to 20 right now.

Until about a month ago he would skip 16 every single time.

Lo Is 2.5 and can count to 20 though she gets tripped up in the teens (usually goes from 13 to 16). She doesn't quite get counting objects yet. Usually when we prompt her to ask how many something is, she'll stop at 2, or keep counting the objects multiple times to get to a larger number

@travellingbee: LO1 is 3 and can count to maybe 30 or 40, not sure! I haven't really taught her numbers, but I'm trying to remember the last time we played hide and seek--sometimes she counts really fast and I shout out for her to keep counting. I think she got to 32 or so last time.

My kid has absolutely no interest in counting, so even though he's 2.5 he can only count to 2 (and sometimes 3). It is directly correlated to counting how many cookies he gets!

We try, we read counting books, we cook together almost every day, but he's just not into it yet so I don't push it too hard.
