@sorrycharlie: FST? I use a folded flat but sometimes I will add an extra hemp insert underneath it for naps.

We use covers and inserts exclusively right now. In my experience, all of the inserts have bunched, but we have rarely leaked until now. H is almost 12 months old. I use a combination of BG microfiber inserts, gDiapers inserts, and cotton fitted diapers for daytime use and alternate between RumpARooz pockets and a BG pocket with a hemp doubler at night. The only diaper H has not leaked out of at night has been the RAR pocket.

@hellobear: @Mrs. Lion: Have you tried adding wool dryer balls to your dryer? When I first started using my diapers the bamboo inserts would take 2 cycles to get dry. With the wool dryer balls they are dry in just one cycle!

@autumnlove: do you use fst? yesterday I used one and it was about 2 hours before I changed her. it didn't leak but was bunched in the crotch (like a pad would be without wings?). then i put another folded fst into a pocket and she leaked within 40 min! again it had bunched, *in* the pocket and it leaked where it was no longer covering. I don't know if she needs two stacked and then folded, or something more absorbant?

@Mrs. Lion: awesome thank you! adding to my list!!

@jetsa: do you like the flip insert? they definitely look more trim than 2 FST, which is what I have to use since my LO seems to be a heavy wetter. either that, or because she's 2, when she does go it's a lot at once! so it can't absorb as fast.

@hellobear: no :( I only dry my inserts in the dryer (not my covers or pockets) so the load is never big enough for them to get dry on the first cycle. I run them through twice and they are always dry the second time.

@Mrs. Lion: are these insert dry out of the dryer? I'm thinking of switching to flips when my LO grows out of her pockets... I have 3 layer bamboo inserts now that are super trim and absorbant that I use with them but they take foreverrrrr to dry so I'm debating switching to cotton?

These are my two favorite inserts. No folding so they are almost as thin as a disposable. One is charcoal bamboo and the other is just bamboo. They both absorb a ton. We can go 3-4 hours without leaking. I'll see if I can find links. I hate the flip inserts because the fold never lays flat and always feels bulky.

@sorrycharlie: that looks right. The difference I have found with microfiber versus a cotton is that MF is softer and more that fluffy butt you hear people talking about. The cotton flats (or bamboo or hemp) are the same thickness usually but just stiffer.

Right now I'm likening the applecheeks microfiber inserts because they can be stuffed or used with a cover. One side has fleece so it's safe to use against the skin.

I've never used the flip inserts but have used their organic prefolds and I liked those but the FST are probably the same thing but cheaper.

Cloth diapers will just be bigger (but cuter  ) in general than disposables. IMO, if you use flats, they will be slightly smaller than prefolds. I don't know about the insert thing.

okay, new CD user question. don't laugh.

I put a flip cover with a flour sack towel on my 2-year old today. I folded it "for a girl" - it wasn't incredibly huge but wasn't as trim as I've seen people say covers can be.

1 - is this just something I have to get used to, versus pampers? :)
2 - is there a trimmer insert? I've read using prefolds with a microfiber towel in the middle? or what about an actual flip insert?

Ordering from kelly's closet this week and want to get everything at once if possible!
