@alohaorchid: She sounds really fun :) When she says "I know we're supposed to be equal and all but you really need to make sure your work is done by the end of the day," can you ask her to be more specific and give an example of something that hasn't been completed? She likely won't come up with anything.

I think being the bigger person in this type of situation will always stand you in good stead. ETA: without being a pushover, of course. Stand up for yourself too!

@alohaorchid: Um I would say "excuse me can I help you find something, I would prefer you DID NOT touch my personal projects as I have everything organized, but I'm more than happy to help you find something, do you need something to do?"

It sounds like she's on a buddy/buddy relationship with your boss, so in this case because she's "so honest" I would be honest right back in a very professional way. Next time she hands off work to you I wuld say "sorry I don't have time, I know you are social but it looks like you are working late since you d idn't have time to finish your work, I have a lot on my plate right now and can't help out." Or I would say "it appears you are struggling with time management, however I don't have time to assist you with your projects as I have mine to complete plus training."

@alohaorchid: Could you start keeping track of "her" work that ends up on your desk, and then maybe meet with your boss in a week or so and ask if he wants you to keep doing her work so you guys can hit deadlines?

He may not be aware that she's not getting her work done, since you're stepping in when she drops the ball!

@LuLu Mom: I love all of this, thank you! My boss does keep telling her that we're equal, we just have different responsbilities but whenever he does that, she ends up saying "I know we're supposed to be equal and all but you really need to make sure your work is done by the end of the day". Um, my work IS done and we're equal. Ugh.

@blackbird: Good idea, I think that's what I have to do. And I'll start working on some comebacks :)

ARGH!! She just came into my office, and went through everything on my desk to see what I have to do. Want to punch someone.

I have a similar situation, not so much the language, but a coworker who thinks she's my boss when we are equals. My boss has told her several times "there is no assistant manager in our department we are all equal" this works for a month or two and then she goes back to "assigning" me tasks.

I would bring it up to your boss and ask about the hierarchy and training plan for new member. I would say as you've never trained a new employee, and hat you have started to create a program however "Sarah" also came up with one. I would just suggest since this new worker will be doing what you are doing, confirm it makes most sense for you to focus on training and maybe have Sarah focus on picking up any additional work while you train.

And also because of a new employee starting, you would like to confirm the management hierarchy, that you and "sarah" are both employees under him the manager. Is there any updates that needs to be made..AKA is Sarah really higher up or just being a royal PITA! If so you would like to put that in the training manual and pass it out to Sarah so she knows! I think this way it's not complaining but being used due to you training a new employee.

@alohaorchid: I would address the specific non-personality issues. like how her work ends up on your desk......

And i would work on some comebacks to get her to STFU to my face :)

although i think if someone got so specific as to tell me they'd rather die than be my size, i would go straight up bitch on them.

@LindsayInNY: I did make a comment about where she lives and I felt about 12 years old lol. But c'mon, we're paying a ton of money for our dream home in our dream area and I'm excited, it doesn't feel good to have some little troll try to belittle it. Especially when she lives with her dad in a run down apartment that she rents.

ETA: Ok, that comment was just mean and bitchy. I don't care if someone rents (I'm jealous of it sometimes even), and I don't care where or who someone lives with. Ugh. Her annoyingness is turning me into a not nice person!

I had a co-worker much like this. I had to be creative to find ways to not take on her extra work, but it was sometimes unavoidable. It sucks!

Is there anyway that when you get a project, you tell her what you are going to handle, and then when the project isn't completed, explain you did your portion (put it in writing at the beginning too)? She will then have to explain to your boss why she didn't handle her portion. This worked well for me, but not sure how your boss will handle a project being incomplete; hold her responsible, or the entire team?

@alohaorchid: I wouldn't complain about her per se but "fight" back on her comments. If she criticizes my house or clothing, comment back - "Well, if I had to live where you live..." If she attacks work you're doing, stop her and tell her you're handling it.

@tororojo: See, she is pretty friendly with my boss. I can tell that he doesn't really like her all that much on a personal level, but she knows our system really well and he doesn't at all, so he gets some valuable info from her, which in turn makes him look good. It's just a not fun situation to be in!

I do think she will at some point say the wrong thing to the wrong person, but waiting for that moment is killing me!

@catomd00: The whole company does. It seems to be something that's pretty widely accepted in this whole city/province, and isn't really something that could be an issue. I've been considering bringing it up to him, I'm just not sure of the best way to do it without sounding like I'm whining. He has made it very clear since we started that he doesn't tolerate complainers.

I feel like all I do lately is post about issues..

I have a really annoying and difficult coworker. We were both hired at the same time, although she started 5 days before me since she didn't have a job. Our career levels are the same with the same years of experience, education and we receive the same compensation. We also have the same title, but we both have different areas that we focus on.

She is constantly bossing me around, telling me what I need to do and when I need to do it. My work is always completed as soon as I receive it, I have worked hard on building professional relationships within the company, and I think I do pretty well here. I don't have the same visibility as she does because instead of running around the floors gossiping, I actually sit in my office and get work done.

She is always talking, making plans, discussing how to do things better, but she doesn't seem to be actually getting the work done. Everything we do is very deadline driven, so it has to be done, and as a result, I end up finding a lot of her work on my desk because she's "sooooo busy (she usually adds how much more social she is than me), she didn't have time to do it". I'm starting to feel used and like her assistant.

I also know she backstabs and gossips a lot. I hear it all the time whenever she's talking to someone. I have to be out of the office earlier than her and so I know she stays behind and gossips and bitches to our boss. Throughout the day the team will agree on doing something and then by the time I come in the next day, it has all been changed because she stays behind and chats with him for an hour.

We are hiring someone new on the team and since a lot of what she will be doing is related more to what I do, I will be doing the bulk of the training. Since this is coming up, I have been getting training documents ready for her and just this morning the annoying coworker told me that I need to stop and we will be using what she has already created. WTF! She is extremely condescending towards me and everything I do, she's not even my boss yet nothing I do or say is ever good enough for her.

To make matters worse, we have a mutual friend and this friend let me know that no one is actually friends with the coworker any more not only because of her superior attitude to other people, but also because apparently she gossipts and backstabs so much that no one wants to be around her.

She is one of those people who says "I say it how it is", when really that's just her cover up for being a giant bitch. My boss and I were talking about our pets and she said "f*** I hate pets, people who have them are such losers. Sorry, I just say what's on my mind!". Yesterday I was wearing new boots and her comment was "I guess they're nice but anyone who buys designer boots is just f****d in the head. Just my opinion!". More comments involve "I would rather die than be as skinny as you", or "if I had to live where you do I would stab my own eyes out then kill myself". How about you just STHP!

Ugh. That was longer than I thought. I just wanted to get it out somewhere, I'm stuck with this job until the new year so I needed to get this out. I can't go to HR because we are HR lol. Thanks for listening!

Anyone else having a not so great day?
