Unless there is some other situation besides the baby, I would maybe do something like put together a little welcome back basket--if she is nursing include a water bottle/healthy snacks and if not perhaps a picture frame for her desk that she can put a picture of the new baby in and maybe send her home early the first day since leaving a new little one, especially so young, is hard!!

I appreciated that my department head told me that he expected LO to be my first priority and said I was free to adjust my schedule as needed for daycare drop-off pick up. His priority was keeping me so he was eager to show how flexible they would be. When I missed a bunch of days for daycare illnesses in the first month he didn't harp on it and praised the work I could do from home and the times I got to the office. They lost a previous employee in my position to work/mommy balance.

I have a coworker that is returning in two weeks. I'm cleaning the pumping room for her and thinking about putting some flowers in it for her or something.

Personally, I would just tell her welcome back, we missed you around here. Make her feel valued. And of course ask to see pics.

Sorry I don't understand the question... is there something unique about her situation?

If not, just say welcome back... how's your baby? Any pictures? :)

My assistant is going to be coming back to work after an 8 week maternity leave. Is there anything I should say/not say or do/not do? I had a baby about six months before her.
