@snowjewelz: K had HFM (at 1 year) and only had blisters in her throat. E also had HFM at 4 mos and only got throat sores.

For K - the minute the fever broke she was fine. E's fever was a bit harder to kick - but both girl drank fine during it which was my peds biggest concern!

It seems all strains are different. T only had one blister on her hand. She had a fever of 102-103 for a week and did not eat for 10 days. Sores on her mouth. I would not call it a mild case since the sores were 'only' in her mouth.

@snowjewelz: my 13 mo old has it now. He got it in his mouth and on his arms, legs and diaper area but almost none on hands or feet. Our doc said there was a strain like this. She also said the mouth part is the most annoying for kids and he has seemed very unbothered by the skin rash. He was sent home from daycare with fever Wednesday and diagnosed Thursday. Seemed better so we sent him to daycare yesterday but he had a fever by pick up time. So now he is home again. His eating is still hit or miss but he is willing to drink water and nurse so it seems okay to me. So hopefully it will be over soon for both of us!

Our good friends had coxsackie (6yo and 3yo) last week that presented as a mild rash and low grade fever but nothing else. We stayed with them in a small cabin the weekend before they got sick and I was super paranoid my kids would get coxsackie/HFM but the strain seems to be a mild one and my kids never got it. :goodluck:

My LO just had round 3 of HFM - this last bout was just in the mouth. He had a fever of 102 for 2 days and then the mouth sores. We waited to take him to the dr for over a week and took him just to confirm it wasn't fungal - they said it was HFM. After the first 2 days of mouth sores, he's been eating as usual but still complained for over a week that his mouth hurt.

@Adira: That's true, sadly! I was confused about the "stages" or "progression" of this since a lot of people seem to equate coxsackie with HFM but then there seems to be all different variations or things that develop later... DH is now like ahh my throat is itchy I don't want it!!

@snowjewelz: I think the throat part is the worst part of HFM! Both my kids got the blisters on their hands and feet, but none in their throat, so it didn't affect their moods or appetites at all. Hope she feels better soon!!

@littlebug: oh good, so it doesn't have to turn into full blown HFM. So far it's just in her throat, I think..........

D had HFM but never got blisters on his hands or feet, just in his throat and mouth. Pretty sure it was about 3 or 4 days.

DD had 102 fever all day on Sunday. We took her in yesterday and doctor confirmed coxsackie based on seeing whatever in her throat. Am I just waiting for HFM? Or it can just stay as a throat thing?

Also how long did it take your LO(s) to recover? Day 3 of not really eating much. I don't mind as long as she has eaten something and is drinking but I hope it's not for too much longer!
