@irene: I usually prepare 3 daycare bottles the night before or in this case, I was just getting bottles ready for later that day on the weekend. I put them back in the fridge after they are bottled and use them within 24 hours. We have been doing this since April(when I went back to work) and we haven't had a problem yet! :-)

@irene: I defrosted my milk at room temp most of the time, and then put it into bottles and refrigerated it for the day. As long as its used within 24 hours it should be ok.

ETA - I wouldnt let the milk get warm or anything, but Id just get it defrosted enough to get into a bottle then store in the fridge

@autumnlove: Do you mind if I ask why do you defrost 16 oz of milk at 1 go in room-temperature water? Do you put them back to the fridge for later use? Has it been working OK for you?

I ask because these breastfeeding people always scared me and say frozen milk needs to be used up immediately once they are defrost in room temperature. So I wonder if the rules can be bent a little bit and won't cause LO diarrhea...

@irene: I will try this...thanks! :-)

@lydg: Flat is good! My bags somehow got bunched up in the freezing process...

Ahhh I would cry! I freeze bags flat...does that make them more prone to cracking?

that happened to me a couple times recently after going through hundreds of lansinoh bags and never having a problem.

i usually defrost in a bowl overnight like irene though so it's not an issue anymore, but of course when i defrost in the fridge, it never leaks!!!

@autumnlove: I had the same problem too... but now I changed the way I defrost the milk and it works well for me.

I take out the bags the night before and put them in the fridge. I use a glass bowl to contain each one of them. The next morning if there were holes in the bag, I'd still use the milk in the glass bowl. I had issues with it before and wouldn't use them but at the end I changed the way I think because of someone else on hellobee boards - they say the bowl is probably way cleaner than whatever that LO is picking up from the floor and putting into his mouth! I think that was so true!! haha. And LO has been drinking the leaked milk also, and has been fine since.

@autumnlove: wow, how much milk was in the bags? and do you squeeze out all the air before freezing? I only ever had one bag leak and its because I wasnt squeezing out the air first.

ARGH! So frustrating. I hate it when that happens. :( I've lost some milk to bad bags, as well.

I put 3 bags of frozen milk in a bowl of cool water and when I checked on it 30 minutes later...the bowl of water was really milky. All three bags had cracks and I wasted 16 ounces of milk! :-( I guess the bags didn't freeze completely flat. :-(
