@BabyBoecksMom: thank you! Yeah, this really is not fun and I thought I was never going to have to deal with this since she is already over 1 !

@BadgerMom: smart! I have some of those saline packs too. I'll have to give it a try.

@mrskc: I actually used the little packets that came with my neti bottle. I would fill the neti bottle to the line with warm water, mix in the salt, and pour the solution into juice glasses. In my newborn stupor it was great because I didn't have to do any real measuring.

That made me cringe just thinking of the times I had to deal with that. The shells + lanolin or breastmilk were the only thing that saved me when I had cracked nipples. I hope you get some relief soon!

@BadgerMom: Interesting!do you use Epsom salts? I'll have to give that a try.

I found a saline soak to be the best for cracked nipples. I'd put the saltwater in a juice glass and then put it on my nipple, soak for a few minutes, and then apply nipple cream. Helped a ton!

@Peasinapod: I think it's lazy latch too. And possibly because I nurse her to sleep sometimes, I have a hard time getting my nipple free from her. I'll try keeping nipple cream on it to see if it helps. If she keeps this up, I might have to wean her sooner than I intended. 😒

My dd is just under twelve months and I've been getting cracked nipples as well. Never had this problem before! I think it might be due to her starting to lazily latch and a stronger suck. Also it's possible that my supply is dipping since I'm trying to wean.

I've been slathering medela on after every nursing session and anytime I think about it. So far it's prevented my nipples from getting to a painful point.

I had a really bad crack when dd was about 3 weeks old.. It was horrible and i cried every time she ate. I got the prescription cream... All purpose nipple cream i think it's called... Had to be made at a compounding pharmacy so i thought it was a big deal and would work. I put it on religiously for 10 days with NO improvement when i gave up and ordered soothies gel pads and they started working overnight! Wish i had done those sooner instead of the cream

Between my 2 kids, I have been breastfeeding for 2.5 years!!! I have NEVER had a cracked nipple or really much pain at all (besides 2 bouts of mastitis).

I don't know what my DD did to me, but one of my nipples is cracked all along the base of it. There was like a hole there before, but that is healed. I thought everything was starting to heal good, but the crack has opened back up again.

I have just been letting it air dry and sometimes been putting nipple cream on it. She is 1 year old! I though she should have this nursing thing down. Did her teeth do it to me? Any tips? How long will it take to heal? help!
