so I am looking at your old posts a but.. cradle cap (my 5 year old also had forever!) is yeast.. my son also had a lot of behavioral issues.. we treated his year, and he walks a bit of a fine line with diet (but he is SO on board with it) and he is SO much better... we cut sugar (so hard, but it worked) and gave grape seed extract for 6 weeks. good luck!

@Chuckles: yeah she’s had flare ups, maybe once or twoce a uear, since it was bad as a baby. Usually it bothers me but she doesn’t seem to care so I did the coconut oil and combed it out. This time she said it was itchy and irritating so I decided to try the new shampoo. Since I use extra stuff on her curly hair I figure the extra cleaning of this shampoo once in a while is good anyway.

I'm following along and just glad to hear it's not just my 5 year old who still has cradle cap. It was embarrassing to go get him a haircut this fall. We put a bunch of coconut oil in to loosen/comb out the big patches and then used Head and Shoulders for a week. It's still pretty clear two months later. But I will keep the tea tree shampoo in mind in case it comes back this winter.

@2littlepumpkins: I thought about that- I know I have a little bottle of tea tree oil somewhere. But I haven’t been loving her shampoo anyway and it’s very moisturizing so I decided to just buy the real thing.

@Kaohinani: it smelled deliscious and I’m definitely using t in myself occasionally too. Ended up getting the 10 ozbecause the in store price for travel size was ridiculous.

My six year old son has thick wavy hair. We use Paul Mitchell tea tree oil, recommended by hair stylist. However we just rotate it in as needed. So I'll use it to clear up an episode and then just once a week as maintenance. He hasn't had an episode since last winter so right now I'm not using it at all.

@gotkimchi: she doesn’t really get eczema, not since she was a baby, although her little sister’s is acting up lately. It’s just started getting colder and the heat has been on at home and it and about so I figure that’s why- but could be somehow related.

Because she has curly hair and you're using curl shampoo, you could try an apple cider vinegar rinse. It should remove any buildup that could be irritating her scalp. Just apple cider vinegar mixed with water (1 Tbsp to 1 cup water, I think?).

@Foodnerd81: does she get eczema? I had a dermatologist tell me at this age it’s not cradle cap it’s eczema?? So if gluten or something makes it flare up cut that, try to not let her head get sweaty etc. we also had a dr tell us to use head and shoulders so we’ve done that occasionally as well. I’ve also had good luck letting coconut oil sit on there and then brushing and washing it out

I'd suggest a tea tree shampoo (as did some pp's). I had some dry dry skin after a sunburn on my scalp and it lingered for a while, my hairdresser suggested the tea tree and it was amazing and cooling and really helped.

@Foodnerd81: I also switched to this shampoo and it's helped keep it in check better. But in all honesty I have ultra fine hair that gets oily easily (might be a contributing factor) and have to rotate shampoos before I even burn through a whole bottle (my husband might complain about the shampoo aisle under the sink), but like @muffinsmuffins: mentioned tea tree helps a lot. I'll add a little to any shampoo that I like and it helps combat it.

Oooooh we have had years of cradle cap with my 4 year old. I tried literally everything and kind of resolved myself to that was just how his head was or I was going to ask the doctor about prescription shampoo or something. BUT. I randomly found this shampoo on amazon and bought it and it took it away in 2 washes. Not even kidding. I tried every oil, every brush, head and shoulders, adult shampoo and conditioner, less washing, more washing and on and on for his whole life. I do have to comb it occasionally if it builds up and I’m not brushing his hair enough but it softens it so well to just pull it out with a comb. AND it has tea tree oil and smells lovely and I’m hoping that will help ward off head lice now he’s in school:
https://www.amazon.com/Anti-Dandruff-Tea-Tree-Camellia-seed-Dandruff-Shampoo/dp/B07B2MKJHL

I think the shower head rinse is key as well as frequent brushing, which is easier with my sons short hair than a curly haired girl like you said. We wash every other day with this shampoo. Head and shoulders is a BEAST if it accidentally gets in their eyes but it did temporarily work for us. This one seems much more gentle and less chemically.

@Sams Mom: oh it’s so nasty, I would totally pick at it if it was me! I couldn’t help myself. It was hard enough not to pick at my kids heads when they were babies.

Im thinking using the curly type shampoo, which is more moisturizing, probably isn’t helping. I’ll see what small size clarifying or dandruff ones I can find.

I'm almost 30 and still get it sometimes (had it really bad as a baby) I use a clarifying shampoo when I get a flare up. I really like the Paul Mitchell, it's kind of expensive but I don't have to use it often. I've used lots of brands (salon and grocery store) and had pretty good experience with everything but the bottom shelf cheapie brands... And I pick at it 🙈
