@wheres_c hi, bumping this back up. Our ped referred us to a specialist for my son's flat head. We had our first appt today with the PA and my husband and I were both not really happy with how it went. You're in South FL right? Would you be willing to send me the name of who you saw?

Thanks again for all of the information/experiences/suggestions!

At her appointment yesterday, her neck tightness had gotten better but it's still recommended that we get the band. She has her well check to talk to her pediatrician about it on Monday and then she's scheduled for the fitting/molding next Friday. It'll take 2.5 weeks or so to get it in and then I know someone who paints them so I'll get her to do that. Fingers crossed it doesn't have to stay on long!

We're in the moderate-severe range, lo is 4 months, and he just got his a week ago.
It's been a rough start because he also stated running a fever and other things have interrupted wearing the band but it's on now so hopefully it's just easier from here. He is estimated to have it for 6-9 weeks! :)

@Aimed121: thanks for that recommendation, the rubbing alcohol way kind of sucks!

@teamjse: O man yes! It really helped with the smell. We used it from really early on every night so the smell never got too bad. I hope it helps, I know they can get so cruddy!

@teamjse: So we used to take off the helmet for bath time and used to spray the fluid on a paper towel and just wipe the inside out really well and just let it air dry while LO was in the bath / getting dried and dressed and then put it back on once it was dry - it only took a few minutes to dry out.
By the end of wearing the helmet - it was still pretty clean!

@Aimed121: How did you clean the helmet with the Mustela cleansing fluid? I read one of your old post and bought it, but got too scared to use it. Did you just wipe it down and put it back on your LO's head? Or did you let it air dry first?

@BelugaBean: My LO, now 3, had one from about 5 months to 11 months. His case was moderate - severe and I think that it helped enormously. He got used to it very quickly and I think that the main thing is to ensure that your LO wears it for the full recommended 23 hours. Our LO wore it in summer as well and our tech recommended cleaning the helmet every night with this -http://www.amazon.com/Mustela-Physiobebe-Rinse-Cleansing-Fluid/dp/B000O2RAUW - and it worked great!
The time will fly by and your LO will have a lovely even head in no time!

@teamjse: Her physical therapist offered to go ahead and do the paperwork to get her approved. Looking at the insurance website, she can probably get the helmet ordered in early March so it would go on at around 5 months.

@BelugaBean: The longest process was waiting for insurance approval for us. That in itself took 10 days. Once we got that, everything was pretty smooth sailing.

We have actually read stories about the doc band not working too, but a lot of them admitted that their babies were older 9 months + and they had a harder time leaving it on their baby.

It really didn't bother my littlest at all and he was 5 months when he got it.

It took about a week for his body to adjust to the helmet, he doesn't sweat as much. You just dress them in much less when they're wearing their helmets.

@MrsADS: So sorry you're having to deal with so much! If it helps, we never used a rock n play and still ended up with plagiocephaly.

@wheres_c: That definitely makes me feel better. I've read some things where people say they don't make a difference but I think we're leaning towards moving forward with it if she's not improving by next week.

@teamjse: I was actually wondering about keeping it clean. We live in the south so it'll be hot here starting around May. If she's not better by next week, I may go ahead and make an appointment to get her fitted since it'll take two weeks after that for it to come in. I don't want her to have to wear it into July/August.

My littlest is currently wearing his doc band for severe plagiocephaly (from his torticollis). He got it 2 weeks ago and we saw significant changes in just a week. The best time for them to wear the doc band is from 4 to 6 months since their heads are growing at a rapid rate. He did have some skin issues the first few days that caused a skin infection (resolved with some antibiotics ointment). We now take off his band every 2 to 3 hours and wipe his head and the band off (we also clean it with rubbing alcohol twice a day). That have made a huge difference with his sensitive skin. They think that because he started at the perfect time, they don't think he'll need it for more than 2 months. I was adamant about starting asap so he will be out of his doc band by the summer. We live in SoCal and him being hot and sweaty would be something difficult to deal with.

Following... my son is 5.5 months. His pediatrician is watching it and will check more thoroughly at his 6 month check up in a couple weeks. It's pretty flat but she says it's even which is good (?). I don't really know much about it but I think his head looks bad.

My son has very severe reflux, food allergies and other GI issues so we have been through hell with him already and I just can't imagine going through a helmet too. I feel like it's my fault since he slept in the Rock & Play - but he was so sick and that was the only place he would sleep. On the flip side, I know tons of people whose babies slept in the RnP and their heads are fine, so who knows. Ugh.

We're in south Florida, it's so hot here and my son is so hot natured and sweaty. I cannot imagine him in a helmet. He would be miserable. Plus he vomits so much, it always gets in his head/hair, and with the helmet, I just cannot imagine. :crying: This is really stressing me out!

I think you read my story but B was in the severe range.
He wore his for about 4-5 months but we made sure he kept it on 24 hours a day.
It really really helped.

LO2 was diagnosed with plagiocephaly at 2 months old. We were referred to physical therapy in early January where they gave us suggested stretches and exercises and measured everything. I thought she had been doing so well and was excited for her appointment a week ago. Well, her diagonal difference went up, meaning her plagiocephaly had gotten worse. So we went again yesterday for a full physical therapy session.

The plan right now is to go back next week to get measurements again and do some more therapy. Then they'll send the information to our pediatrician to discuss at her four month well check on the 22nd. If she doesn't improve though, it looks like we're headed in the direction of a cranial band.

She said it's up to us but if it's recommended, we're going to go with it. Therapy alone hasn't helped yet and she's moving up further towards severe (she's currently in the moderate-severe range).

I was just wondering what we can expect? How long did your LO have it on? When did they have it put on? She would most likely get it at 4.5-5 months.
