@Ajsmommy: This makes me feel so much better. I’ll take longer stretches...this up every hour is exhausting to say the least! Glad things have improved!

@Mamag511: they do get better!!!! Ds is now 9 Months and he either sleeps through the night or gets up once to eat.

I'm not sure if it was this post but I ended up looking into the silent reflux symptoms and determined ds had it. He was so uncomfortable and would end up Congested by the end of every night...he didn't really spit up. But I took him in and they prescribed reflux meds. Things drastically improved.

I'm not going to lie and say he started sleeping through the night bc well he didn't but he did sleep better. Longer stretches. He still got up 2-3 times a night and the first few months back at work were a struggle but I managed.

@Ajsmommy: I know I’m bumping an old thread, but this is totally my life right now with my 9 week old. He was just diagnosed with reflux so we just started meds - but I’m hoping you can tell me that things got better!!! What did you end up doing that worked?

@Ajsmommy: ds2 also had reflux. Crazy spit up and uncomfortable after feeds. I forgot that in combination with moving rooms I started keeping him upright even at night for 15+ mins. And I think his reflux meds finally started working around 10 weeks (got on Zantac at 6w, changed dosing to 3x a day under GI doc supervision at 8w).

@Ajsmommy: I have been really uncertain about the medicine until I saw how he was without it (after having been on for several weeks). He doesn't have typical reflux symptoms, I don't think. When I took him off, he was up every hour the first night and 30 mins the second night. Impossible to put down. Naps were trash even in the wrap...like lots of shushing and bouncing for even restless sleep. It improved right away when I refilled his prescription (which made me feel guilty for ever taking him off, but live and learn).

I'd at least talk to your dr about it. You guys need some sleep.

@gingerbebe: that sounds just like ds! I'm seriously wonder if I should try to get him on meds or if I should just try to tough it out. Thank goodness I'm on maternity leave for now... But that's only two more weeks

@Peasinapod: I was going to suggest that! My lo likes his arms up by his face and the love to dream swaddle has been amazing!

Mine is 6 weeks old and we still have him sleep in the RNP. We attempted a flatter surface last week and it was awful- waking every 1-2 hours like you said. So I'm going to stick with the RNP for now and worry about transitioning later.
So far he's sleeping from about 9 pm- 2am, then up at 4:30-5am, and then up for the morning around 8am. I'm still on maternity leave too, but I'll have to be up by 7 once I start work again.

I took T off his Zantac for a couple days recently and his sleep got more and more unsettled until I put him back on the meds. I wasn't sure because he doesn't have a lot of typical reflux symptoms but there is definitely something going on. I'm also going to keep him in the rock and play for a while longer so he's not sleeping flat - he has a hard time with that.

I'm really crap at baby sleep but the rock and play and the meds seem to be working well enough for now.

Both my sons had silent reflux and were pure hell in terms of sleeping until medicating. Like maybe a 2 hour stretch then up every 30-40 minutes all night. Add shots and growth spurts and wonder weeks and having days and nights flipped and all that - weeks 6-10 were the pits. But medicine really helped. Both were drastically better by 12 weeks and DS1 was off meds by 5.5 months and DS2 by 4 months.

@Ajsmommy: I know he is still very young but the nursing to sleep may be causing a sleep association even at this age. Could you try nursing him until he is almost asleep and then swaddle him, this will rouse him a little, before putting him in the crib?

You haven't mentioned any other issues that indicate reflux but just to cover all the bases -- any chance of silent reflux bothering him? My daughters sleep was just like that from 4-8ish weeks and it was from reflux  I have a picture of her sleeping on my chest at 5 weeks and remember it was the only way she could sleep longer than an hour at the time. She also loved to have her arms out

And we thought we were sleep experts because our first slept so well in his crib early on! Ha. I hope you can get more rest soon, know how hard it is! I also will mention that I definitely believe you aren't creating any habits right now so do what you need to survive! Our daughter went on to be the best sleeper in the house starting around 4 months - now (18m).

I bought the love to dream swaddle which lets their arms be up and it's honestly been amazing! Maybe give it a try? Also I held / wore my lo until around 10pm so I was also sleeping during her longest stretch of sleep.

DS2 was a lot like this. Moved him to his room at 2m and once I could stop hearing every noise he made the wakings decreases to around 2x night.

@ElbieKay: thanks .... I'm not sure dh is on board with Co sleeping but it might come to that once I'm back working.

I don't think I can do cio.

I know it's not for everyone, but I would try cosleeping.

Conversely -- and this was definitely not for me -- but the pediatric practice we use endorses CIO at 8 weeks. So I guess you could try that? I personally would be unable to do it.

And that sucks. I'm sorry.

My 9 wk old is a CRAP sleeper at night! I'm going back to work soon and I need help.

Tell me what you did to turn your young crap sleeper into a champ sleeper.

Should I keep doing what I'm doing and hold out hope he'll get it? He is in his crib. I nurse him to sleep. Bedtime begins at 630-7. He's usually down by 745-8

Then the games begin. Sometimes he wakes back up before 10. Sometimes he'll make it to 11-12 those are his best stretches. Then he seems to basically be up every hour and wakes up immediately when I put him down. He doesn't nurse at every wake up and sometimes he is even back asleep in minutes --- until I put him back down.

Should I just keep plugging along??? Should I try Co sleeping? Or the rnp? (He naps in rnp)

Eta: I believe he is gassy, I have gripe water and gas drops. He also liked to move his arms so a tight swaddle is a no go. I.do half swaddle his mid section and legs.
