My husband was one of the babies that walked before crawling, but I guess I crawled first. She's three and when tries to crawl now she still can't do it and what she does attempt looks very awkward. she was evaluated by early intervention because of her speech but her fine motor skills was marked very high.</p> <p>Both of my kids have been crawlers my first didnt walk til 17 months which is really late but she just very causious by nature. At 7 months she learned to get her butt in the air and motor around while crawling so now she loves crawling everywhere. The cross lateral use of your body helps with specific motor functions and even brain development. A lot of babies skip crawling and are fine, but some do develop problems. We knew a family who had to go to physical therapy at a later age to treat some neurological problems that stemmed from the lack of crawling as a baby. Doesn't have to be on their hands and knees (my LO usually army crawls all over the place). It has something to do with development of the brain, depth perception, motor skills. A physical therapist we saw said she sees many older kids that don't have the fine muscles developed and have to go through therapy later on. She has no interest being on her tummy or moving her arms and legs to get anywhere but she'll stand with support for a long time.
