I really really hope she gets a shelter dog! So many dogs need a home!

And I've had two dogs that get carsick....just something else to consider with a toddler and a baby!

When I got my first dog she was really scared on the way home and I had to hold her the entire time. My second dog was terrified, he cried and then got car sick.

With our puppy it would probably have been fine, but I've known too many dogs that wouldn't have been. And a toddler that hates their carseat in the car for 8 hours? No thanks! But you might could have fun with just you and your sister; I hope that works out if she sticks with it!

Also make sure she has a carrier or one is provided. The puppy CAN ride in one of your laps, but it might be easier on him/her to not.

Thanks everyone! THat's a really good suggestion about leaving the kids home. It's about a 4 hour trip each way, so I know an overnight isn't necessary (I'm not ready to leave my LO overnight alone lol!)

Is there no way just you and your sister could go while someone else watches the kids? If that's possible that is what I would do. 2 kids and a new puppy in the back of your car sounds like a bit much.

My sweet little puppy (who was like 2 lbs at the time) whimpered the entire 30 minutes home, it was heartbreaking she was so scared and shaking. I can't this + throwing in a couple kids! ha I couldn't do it.

that is a lot to handle. i would not do it.

ETA: if she really wants to do this, one possibility is for her to rent a car. the cost of the rental is peanuts compared to what it will cost to own the dog.

My dog was miserable when we drove her home for the first time. Cried the whole time. :crying: then got car sick.
It's one thing if it's your dog getting sick, but some one else dog. Yuck.

So my sister asked me to take a road trip to Pennsylvania in my teeny tiny subcompact car with her, my nephew, and my toddler in the back because she wants to pick up this doll-sized dog from either a shelter or breeder.(she doesnt' have a car - lives in city!) I don’t know the type of dog or the specifics. My first reaction is : a toddler and a new dog in a tiny car on a long road trip. RUN AWAY! NOOOOOOOO! She has ZERO experience with dogs. I have close to zero. I dog sat with my DH for my MIL and it was so stressful lol. I told her I’d get back to her on that. (I’m hoping this is just a passing whim.)

Is this crazy or totally doable? Toddler is 16 months. Hates the car seat lol.
