At 28 weeks we found out our baby had a potentially fatal kidney condition. We spent the entire pregnancy preparing for her arrival but all the specialists also tried to prepare us for the possibility that she would not make. </p> <p>My husband and I read a lot of blogs of other parents who went through the same experience - some with positive outcomes and some where the baby did not make it. We looked at those blogs where the parents were just heartbroken and posted so many photos of their dead baby - holding their dead baby, etc. My husband and I told each other that we didn't think we would ever do that - it seemed so creepy to hold and snuggle a dead baby and take a ton of photos.</p> <p>Our daughter was born at 37 weeks but only lived 13 hours. The grief counselor told us so many parents don't want to hold the baby or take photos bc it feels so weird. But she encouraged us to do so bc if we did it and didn't connect with that experience that would be ok but if we didn't try it that we may regret it for the rest of our lives. </p> <p>My husband and I held and kissed and cried over our dead daughter for hours and hours and hours and hours. We took so many photos. We looked at each other and said "we are those weird creepy people from the Internet with our dead baby but I don't care." That time was all we had with our daughter to say goodbye forever. It is possibly the most heartbreaking thing ever to say goodbye to someone - especially your child- and know you will never see their sweet face ever again. </p> <p>When you lose someone you love -for some the only way to get through the grief is to remember them and share them with everyone - it's the only way I can keep her memory alive and that is how I grieved the loss of my baby. And it does feel shocking and foreign when you've never experienced it - and not everyone will experience grief like that - but until you go through it you never know how you will deal with it. I certainly didn't think I would be that person to share photos of my dead baby with everyone I know in person and online BUT when it did happen to me I became that person. An acquaintance from high school became an addict (cocaine/heroin/both I'm not sure) and had 3 kids with 3 different fathers she met in jail then rehab. </p> <p>Over the past year or so she had a new boyfriend she was constantly posting to/about, fluctuating between lovey dovey crap and then about what a horrible a-hole he was and things were over between them, etc. Rinse and repeat. This included one post of her in the ER with her face battered and bruised saying he abused her, but a week later, back to lovey dovey stuff. Then she announced she was pregnant with his baby, announced they were engaged, and then posted ultrasound photos saying she was 10 weeks along.
