Not on par with some of these, but mine was moderately nuts. We did a 12-week Bradley course preparing for a slow, long labor, ready to spend as many hours at home as humanly possible before heading to the hospital for a long haul. Turned out my water broke spontaneously and I had the baby two hours later, after a nurse finally checked me and discovered I was almost fully dilated. My doula missed the birth - she said the series of text messages DH sent her were the most hilarious thing ever ("I think you should probably head here soon" "Things are progressing quickly" "Baby is here" - that last one when she was pulling into the parking lot).

@youboots: Similar. A friend's brother's girlfriend went to the doctor with stomach pain. Doctor told her she was pregnant, figured to be about 30 weeks. The next day she had terrible pain, went to the ER, and delivered a full-term (they estimated about 37-38 weeks) baby!

As for truly crazy, I will never forget this story - baby was born on a sled in a snow storm! http://www.today.com/parents/snow-way-baby-born-sled-icy-philadelphia-2D11988970

@matador84: I had missed your story.(during my HB absence) I read it recently finally. HOLLY COW!!!!! I do not even have words.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: In her yoga pants!?!?! I can not even imagine.

@Anagram: Woah! That is scary but also kind of impressive. I mean of course scary to labor that fast and the possibility of not being in the right place when the time comes. But also impressive that her body just so easily births a child. WOW!!!

@youboots: OK I have "heard" of this before but cant wrap my head around it. HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN? I mean must have been a mild child to not feel movements and what not. Now THAT is scary. I cant imagine being completely unprepared for a baby like that. THE SHOCK!!!

@misolee: OMG Poor Gramms!!!!! Yeah I think an unplanned birth at home (Or in a car or wherever) def is considered "crazy" more so alarming.

My friend went in to have her scheduled c-section for #3. I talked to her that morning. She and DH announced the baby just a couple hours later. Everything seemed to have happened according to schedule. A few days later she casually mentions that she had the baby vaginally between checking into the hospital and her c-section appointment time.

@youboots: That happened to a friend of mine when I was 37 weeks. I just kept rubbing my belly wondering how you could not know. Everybody's different though.

its' not that crazy but

A friend of mine had her second come out too fast and her and her husband delivered the baby on their bathroom floor in the middle of the night. Their older toddler slept through it all. Ambulance came and took mom and baby. Dad called grandma to come over to watch toddler (she lived very close). Grandma comes as ambulance is arriving but dad doesn't have time explain and jumps into ambulance (also forgets his phone). Grandma goes upstairs and sees the blood bath, huge mess and assumes the worst. Dad doesn't contact Grandma for HOURS bc he forgot his phone and grandma is praying and worried sick. Finally, he comes home to get a change of clothes and to pick up phone and explains to Grandma everything was okay.

so moral of story...don't forget your phone :)

A family member had a baby last month and did not know she was pregnant. No joke. She went to the emergency room with abdominal pain and they checked her and baby was crowing.

The story isn't all that crazy but my mother always had really fast labors (like barely make it in time labors), and my dad got more and more nervous with each birth. I'm one of 6 kids. I was number 5 and he kept telling my mom that they had to go to the hospital the second she felt ANYTHING. So one night, she woke up and just felt "off". No contractions.....just "off". So my dad insisted they go to the hospital.

She got there and was embarassed because she wasn't having contractions or anything and was embarassed to say she was just there because she was feeling off. The nurse said lay down to be checked--but my mom said she had to go to the bathroom first. The nurse say, no, let me check you first. And....the baby's head was right there (my head) and the nurse said lady, you are having a baby!

And I was born 20 minutes later.

When my mom was pregnant with my little sister, my dad was so terrified he took my mom's new OB aside (we'd moved to another state) and told him the history and he and my dad decided that my mom should be induced. At that point, we lived kind of out in the country and my dad was terrified of a car birth. So they induced and even with an induction, it was only a 2 hour labor.

Not crazy but I'd never heard of this happening before my own experience so I just wasn't prepared for it -- was induced and given max dose of Pitocin (several times) but apparently just don't respond to Pitocin and never had any measurable contractions so I ended up with an unplanned c-section.

A friend of mine's wife 3rd birth was pretty crazy to me. She is a nurse and already delivered two babies so she was nice and calm when her contractions started. She took a liesurely shower and got dressed to head to the hospital. Then boom fast, active labor. The baby started coming before she could get her clothes. She delivered her third inside her yoga pants!

Whats the best or craziest you have heard?
I thought it would be fun to share some fun and shocking or unbelievable stories we have heard.
I have 2 that I can think of right now...

One- A former co-worker I became really good friends with. Her children are now all grown adults. She has three kids. She only made it to the hospital with one. She always labored too fast.
Her first one she was in the car on the way to the hospital. They had to pull over because the baby was coming. I guess her husband was white knuckled grasping the steering wheel and all he kept saying "The baby is in the car, the baby is in the car".
Her second she made it the the hospital.
The third she was at the DMV. In line and felt it come on like a freight train. She was alone so they called an ambulance to take her to the hospital. They get her on bed to roll her to the ambulance, the paramedic takes a look and says "Ma'am, your baby is already coming out. PUSH!"
Once push and HE was out.
*Side note which is even more crazy. Is her third was suppose to be a little girl with Down syndrome. She was older when she get pregnant. Had an Amnio, her results said girl, with down syndrome. So clearly the results had to have been accidentally swapped. She was ready and prepared. She took classes and educated her self best she could to prepare to raise a special needs daughter. All girl clothing of course too. Out comes a healthy boy.

Two- my Aunt- which this is not unheard of. She went into labor. Baby was delivered. My Uncle left to go tell family, nurse runs out after my uncle yelling for him to come back, there is another. She had twins and didn't know it.
