@regberadaisy: For sure! Ignoring does help b/c they are not getting a response so they give up. But it doesn't' always work and when we're in public, oh boy! Where we live in Asia all the kids are so well behaved. Well, most of them. My American boys are the wild ones in restaurants making so much noise. :P Hang in there. I had a newborn and an almost 3-year-old (about 2.5 years ago) so I know exactly what your'e going through. I just let my parents do whatever while they were there and enforced some of our rules but I also let some of them go temporarily because it was not worth my fight. I needed to relax so I could produce more BM! :D

@Cherrybee: It's a great book! I bought it when Mr. bee recommended it a while back. Hope it helps you too! It helped with my oldest. I just need to re-read it again with my youngest. He's a toughie! Good luck and hang in there yourself!

@littlecasita1122: That was us a year ago. He used to throw 10+ tantrums a day - like drop to the floor kicking and crying for 20 minutes each time. It was brutal. He's MUCH better now but has come up with other antics to make it hard for us to get him to do things. Sometimes even to just brush his teeth or even drink milk. And he's been fighting showers at bed time now. :\

@mrbee: I remember you recommending the book a while back and I bought it! But I can't seem to remember some of it. I should go back and re-read it again. It's been a while! But it has to wait until we get back to Asia. Thanks for the reminder!

Absolutely. Doesn't help that we're in the thick of it with a NB and my mom here who hates crying so she gives in easily.

We instituted a 1, 2, 3 rule. If by 3 "she doesn't stop/listen it's time out in her room for 5 minutes.

Sometimes I think just needs to get it out of her system. We'll ignore her while she tantrums and when she's done she'll go" I all done, mommy/daddy".

@mrbee: Ba-hahaha! I was chuckling so much at "yoghurt distraction gambit is all I've got" that when I got to the bit about teaching your kids tricks I almost spat my tea out! That was a great article!!! EDIT: I just bought the book!

@erwoo: I have so much sympathy for you! We are hurtling toward this point with E - every day she is getting more opinionated (and bizarre)! My BFF's son is 22 months now and he's in the thick of it. The other day he threw a huge tantrum because they moved the location of the fruit bowl. It didn't change his ability to access or eat the fruit.... it was just different and he didn't like it. :bummed:

We went through a similar phase right before my son turned two...he was throwing multiple tantrums every day and it was so exhausting for all of us. We finally got him to calm down by leaning down to his level and getting him to look us in the eye while reminding him to "use his words". Most of the time this works and he can at least give us some idea as to why he's upset. We also try to distract, distract, distract haha...but that only works sometimes.

@erwoo: We really struggled with this in the 2s and 3s with our eldest... until the tips in this book helped us get a handle on things!

We go through this too. It's mostly their age I think, you're not alone! The most simple thing will set her off. I try my best to say "show me", or "you do it". She's very particular and independent so I'm learning to reason with her. Good luck, and hang in there!

Does your 2 year old tantrum unreasonably? Mine would want his daddy repeatedly and then when he comes and I leave he starts asking for me repeatedly crying and jumping up and down. He'll do the same thing with things as well. He'll ask for yellow tissue and I'll give him a tissue from a blue tissue box (I know he asked for yellow but we don't have "yellow tissue") and he'll say "no!!!" And then what feels like forever later I'll ask him if that blue box of tissue is "yellow tissue" he finally says "yes." Seriously?! I don't remember my oldest being this unreasonable at this age! It's crazy! I think if we had my youngest first we would be one and done because the thought of having another just like him would just be too much.

How do you handle tantrums like this? I've tried time outs but I would have to do it with everything he tantrums about so he'll be crying all day long. He's actually lost his voice from crying so much these last few days. :(
