We just brought our son back to bed and otherwise tried to keep calm and not make a deal of it and after a couple of days the thrill of the newfound freedom was gone and things went back to normal. (Well except he now comes to our room instead of calling out for us MOTN).

Ugh - we just moved ours and she's done well for 2 nights. But she hasn't realized she can leave yet. I'm holding my breath for a few more weeks.

@SeptMomma12: hahaha He sounds like quite the comedian! :D hahaha that is hilarious! BUT I totally get the 5:30am thing. It was so cute the first time L let himself out of his room. He comes up to me and say "Hi Mommy! I'm awake!" and I looked over at DH and I was like, omg, he is just the cutest thing ever. I don't do that any more.

@.twist.: It's not so adorable at 5:30am, but I have to give him some points for creativity :silly: Yesterday he went so far as to yell from his room that we needed to go to Home Depot and get new batteries for his clock!

@Dagny: It wasn't one of my initial concerns, I was more scared of him falling out or something, which he hasn't done. He's proven he's very good at getting in and out. ;)

@yin: haha thank you! I'm sorry it took so long for you, that sounds exhausting!

@MrsB2012: @Charm54: It sounds like we'll be trying a door lock! Thanks ladies, and I'm glad your sleep improved!

@cascademom: We are potty training in the next couple weeks and I just dread bedtime + potty excuses! Good luck with the gate tonight and report back! :D

@Foodnerd81: I don't think I can revert back! We're getting ready to potty train and I want ease at night with potty visits because I am SURE there will be plenty.

@SeptMomma12: I may end up bribing him, but first I'm just going to lock him in. ;) I also REALLY giggled at his comments about the ok-to-wake clock. That is hilarious and adorable.

@SeptMomma12: With the token system, it's definitely on the bribery level. It generally works well when he's with the program unlike last night. I'm picking up a gate before picking up the kids tonight. I'm hoping that it stems some of the issues.

Ugh we had the same experience this summer. My husband calls it the worst month of his life :silly: What eventually worked for us was a combination of a few things... We put a baby gate on his door, which worked surprisingly really well. I don't know if it makes him feel more secure or something, but he even reminds us if we forget to put it up. We also told him he's allowed to get up once. And he does, almost every night about 5 minutes after he goes to bed. That seemed to give him a little more of the control he was looking for. And finally, good old-fashioned bribery. He got a matchbox car every morning that he stuck to the rules.

We have the ok to wake clock too, but that's been very hit or miss with DS. If he happens to sleep until it's green, he's super excited. But if he wakes up earlier, he just tells us it must be broken.

We put her back in the crib. I just gave up and decided I'd rather buy a new crib for baby 2 if t comes to that.

In your situation could you put a cover over the light switch, and move the sound machine out of reach, and lock the door somehow (doorknob cover)? Just remove all temptations?

Meanwhile my friend told her son he can't get out of bed until his clock turns green- and he never did. It's unbelievable.

We're in the middle of this hell. We've been doing a token system where he gets three tokens where mom and dad can come up and answer his request after routine. It worked perfectly for two weeks until this past weekend. DH and I got sick and all hell broke loose. Last night, he went to sleep at 11pm after getting up to go to the bathroom twice on his own. I'm getting a gate today. Gate plus token system I hope will stop this. I'm exhausted from being sick and not getting a lot of recovery sleep that I needed from his drama plus 6 month old waking up.

This happened to DD - she was the best sleeper in the world until she transitioned to her bed. It was okay until about 2 weeks in when she realized she could crawl out of bed. We tried the super nanny thing (put her back in every.single.time without talking) but it was so frustrating doing that 35+ times and she just kept getting more worked up.

So we did the 2 times rule - after the 2nd time of putting her back in, mommy and daddy were not coming back. Took her two nights to realize and then she got it. Things were awesome again UNTIL she realized she could open her bedroom door.

So we got one of those door knob covers and again, took her two nights to realize she couldn't open it up anymore and then things went back to normal.

These days she doesn't even try to get out of bed or her room and sleeps 8-8. I'm sure we could take the doorknob cover off now and she would be fine. It was a hellish few weeks but thankfully things did go back to normal once she learned her limits.

Fx for you!

We put b in a toddler bed maybe a month ago. At first she wouldn't stay in her room, so we put on one of those door handle covers so she can't open the door from the inside. Since we did that, she actually sleeps better now then she did in the crib. Maybe we were lucky, but once she realized she couldn't get out, now she just lays in her bed. We don't keep any toys in her room, just her books. Good luck, hopefully you find something that works for you guys.

This happened to LO1, and it took over a year to fix his sleep. It's still not perfect, and he joins us in bed a few times a week in the middle of the night. No great tips, but stay strong. It will get better with time.

L is 2.5 and we recently switched from crib to toddler bed. Things were going well and he was staying in bed. He's usually a good sleeper (since we sleep trained at 6 months).

THEN, then he realised he could get out and walk around and come out of his room. Now it's a battle of him getting out of bed, turning off his sound machine, turning lights on, coming/peeking out of his room. He now gets up at 5:40 or earlier every morning.

WHAT HAPPENED? How do I fix this?!

I know there is the ok-to-wake clock, which is a possible option, but I would like to hear if any one else has other suggestions before trying the ok-to-wake thing. I'm just not sure he would actually listen to it. haha
