I have a complete set from Pottery Barn Kids (with blanket and bumpers) that I wanted and love. I bought the blanket because it is large enough to be used with a toddler bed. I also bought 3 sets of matching toddler sheets/pillow cases as well.

Nope! I thought I'd rather use the money for something else. My mom bought us a crib skirt but I didn't like how it looked on our crib and we don't use bumpers. I buy the target Circo crib sheets. So cute! Save your money :)

No, I didn't spend big money on a set - I think they're a crazy waste of money. You don't use the bumper or half of it. I bought some pretty fitted sheets, my mother made me a simple but beautiful crib skirt, and that was it.

Thanks to everyone who commented! I'm so glad I asked this question before buying a whole set. I ended up following everyone's advice, and bought the crib skirt, sheets and I found a blanket off etsy that coordinates with my theme. Thanks!!!!

We bought a set and we have used it all. We used the bumpers until she was 9 months old and learned to stand and now that she's older, she sleeps with the blanket. It was worth it to us and we used it.

Did not do the bumper due to suffocation warnings, which makes crib bedding WAY less fun! So I just stuck to cute sheets from PBK,. You will change sheets fairly often due to spit up. Or worse accidents! Our crib has heavy wood detail on the bottom, so we didn't do a crib skirt. I think I just spent about $20 per crib sheet at PBK and we have 4 or 5 total. The rest of her nursery has lots of cutesy stuff so the crib bedding is just enough to accent it. I originally thought crib bedding was like the MAIN thing/focal point, but once you take away the bumper and the skirt, it's a lot less fun. And a lot less money!

We have three fitted sheets and I just ordered fabric to make a crib skirt. I picked only patterned sheets since I do think crib bedding can add a lot to a room design wise, but we are not going to use a bumper.

2 chevron (gray and yellow): http://www.target.com/p/circo-chevron-fitted-crib-sheet/-/A-14288154#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=circo+crib+sheet

We bought a sheet and crib skirt set from Land of Nod and then I got some coordinating sheets from BRU and Aden + Anais. I got the matching blanket from Land of Nod because I knew we could use it later and it looks nice on the rocker for now. I knew I didn't want bumpers and the sets always looked too fussy/uncomfortable to me.

My mom bought us a really pretty Glenna Jean set.. But we haven't used any part of it yet.. When I get it together, I'll put the crib skirt on and display the quilt. Some day, when we convert the crib to a toddler bed, I'll put the bumper on.. Crib sets are definitely not a necessity..

I couldn't find anything I liked so I finally bought some material and my mom & I made the bedding sets. I didn't make bumpers, since they are not recommended anymore for babies. When we get to the point that they are getting arms and legs poked through the crib slats, we'll get breathable bumpers.

It was seriously insane how much crib bedding sets cost!

I ended up stumbling across a fabric I loved in a store I had no idea carried fabric, bought the whole roll and had what I wanted from a bedding set sewn for me. Less than $100 all-in, I was thrilled.....!

When it's time...no bumper for safety reasons, sheets, and maybe a crib skirt if it fits decor wise, but I am loving the skirtless cribs featured in real nurseries. As for blankets just a couple ala carte ones that feel great to the touch.
