Is there an age when the bumper (non-breathable) is safe? Is it when the baby can roll around on her own? Or is it never safe?

I would buy the pink & cream Wonder Bumpers, which are less than what you are willing to pay and they can stay on the crib forever. I've kept mine on for 3 years and will use them for my next daughter. They still look fabulous!

I was looking for a similar really simple petal-y pink and cream and ended up getting these sheets (click pink): http://www.amazon.com/Crib-Flannel-Sheet-Pack-Blue/dp/B005MDA5AU/ref=pd_sbs_ba_1 from Babies R Us and this crib skirt: http://www.amazon.com/Tadpoles-Triple-Layer-Tulle-Skirt/dp/B001708BDU/ref=br_it_dp_o_nC?ie=UTF8&coliid=ICM1EWNKUKZLE&colid=H7D38PMATWDC from Amazon.

Love the decal and colors. Good luck with babybedding.com. I actually was able to find a print they had in a set that I was able to order separately from diapers.com (bananafish Joshua). We ended up just buying the valences (which I could have made but for $17 that was pretty cheap), a crib sheet (because I liked the matching shade of green polkadots), matched with a green breathable bumper, and for fun picked up a matching pillow. It all looks great. I don't miss a crib skirt at all. There are lots of DIY no sew tutorials for crib skirts too. Also know that the "life span" of a crib skirt can vary because as you move the mattress down as the child gets older the skirt no longer is the right length.

@jholler25: the use of bumpers being against the guidelines is a relatively new thing. I guess they are a suffocation risk because the baby could get their face smashed up against them. However, I know that me, all of my siblings, and basically everyone who was born before 2009 or so used crib bumpers as a baby. I use them with my LO who is 7 weeks old and she does not move in her sleep. I place her in the middle of the crib and there is no where she is getting near that bumper. When she gets older and does start to move, the bumper will protect her from getting arms and legs caught in the crib slats. For these reasons, I personally choose to use the bumper. To each his own!!!

Love the decal! I agree with the others though, you don't even use the stuff in the sets. I bought separates, and you should easily be able to find solid color sheets, crib skirt, and if you want a breathable bumper. I think I got our. Light pink sheets at bru.

we bought a bumper and never used it. i sold it for a fraction of the cost. so if you don't use the bumper, it is definitely on the pricey side. love rh baby's stuff though!

i also second carousel designs. they can do custom.

We wanted something very simple too and I was surprised how hard it was to find! I hate baby-ish bedding. We ended up with this set (yes, we do use the bumpers)

For what that set is... yeah, i do think it's a lot. I'd try to find separates. Have you looked at Carousel? http://www.babybedding.com/

@hilsy85: I don't want patterns, because I want the hghlight of the room to be her tree decal and name over her crib....Then just accents of pink against the khaki/gray walls and the dark furniture is my vision...So the solid light pink is actually what I am after, and it's been kind of hard...

Here is her wall decal, even though her name will be lighter pink and there won't be a quote under her name:

I just feel like the bedding and stuff needs to be really simple, not patterned, in order for it not to be "too much." You know?

Totally depends on what you're looking for...I originally fell in love with a set that was $380 but then realized that it I didn't really NEED to spend that much on bedding...not to mention, IMO, there's nothing really "special" about this bedding, you know? It looks very plain, which is great for a classic look--but I would personally feel better about spending that much if I knew that a lot of workmanship had gone into it. Also, as other posters have said, you're not supposed to use a bumper in the crib...I know some people use them after the baby is a certain age, but we probably won't use them period. We may be going with one of these sheets, which have a pattern on the edge that help bring some style to the bedding: http://www.annettetatum.com/nursery-perfect-fit/c118_326/index.html

Have you looked at Serena & Lily? Or Layla Grace? They each have a ton of really cute classic patterns/sets.

@Mrsdaredevil: I love the look of a bumper too, but when can you start using them? I think they "dress up" a crib....And are they totally safe when you do use them? I had no idea about any of these bumper safety guidelines...

@yoursilverlining: I'm a big ebayer too! I have been looking, but the thing is that I am so particular about wanting solid light pink and ivory that it's majorly reduced my choices. And the PBK pink is like a dark pink for their solid/organic bedding. I'm screwed:(

I don't think it seems too expensive for a set - but would be too expensive for me. I'd be hesitant to buy if you have to pay for shipping and can't feel it ahead of time!

I'm skipping the crib set because I don't want to use bumpers due to safety concerns. I'm lucky that my Mom offered to make a baby quilt for me (though I love some of them on Etsy) and then I'll purchase coordinating crib sheets or make them myself (easy! just elastic around the corners). I figure anything else that I'll actually use will be once they're into a toddler bed and I might want to redecorate by then!

It seems like an average price for a full bedding set, but IMO yes it's too expensive (I think they all are!). It just depends on what your budget is and what your spending priorities are.

You might want to check out Ebay and your local craigslist. Stuff like sheet sets usually are not used for very long (and things like bumpers and bedskirts are hardly used at all, and generally wouldn't come in contact with baby poop/puke so remain clean) and you can get great deals. We got a Pottery Barn set on Ebay for like $20 with shipping, looks absolutely brand new; you seriously cannot tell it was used. I'd rather go that route and bank the left over $250 on something that will last LO longer, or put it in her college fund.

But everyone has their "splurge" items!!

I agree, i'd go a la carte. For what it's worth, we have lots of restoration hardware products in our home (duvet cover, shams, shower curtain, even baby clothing), and it is all exceptional quality. I've had the same duvet cover for more than 5 years and it still looks new.

Especially because it is NOT free shipping and that's totally annoying me (It's going to be like $21 to ship the quilt, sham, and diaper changing cover)....There is not a store around here, I think they only have 1 RHkids and it's in Texas or something...Hmmmm, I am stumped here. I hate paying shipping, especially on large purchases...It should be free! I bet I would lose the s/h $ if I had to return! Were your purchases on bedding items?

@Beebug: Good luck! The hunt is driving me insane, and I am still torn this one:)

Oh my, it is so beautiful! I am definitely looking for something similar, but that does cost more than our crib, annnd I definitely don't think I could justify the splurge! However, you have to live with the purchase and if you would be happy with it, I would say go for it :)

I think a la cart is the way to go. Can you see the stuff in person? I only suggest that because I've had 2 run-ins now with Restoration Hardware where I was disappointed in their quality. It looks beautiful in the photos.

Okay, so I'm thinking of doing the quilt, monogrammed with her name to kind of hang over the side, and I'll get ivory sheets somewhere else, where they're not so expensive....I am also thinking of ordering the pillow sham in the petal and having it monogrammed as the throw pillow for the rocking chair.

I really just like the Petal color. I'm thinking of nixing the crib skirt, the crib looks fine without it.

We spent a ridiculous amount on LO's bedding but we justified it by deciding she will likely stay in her crib for a while bc it converts to a toddler bed. We got her set from Pottery Barn Kids and got the set that comes with sheet, skirt, bumper (not using now bc we have the breathable one...she rolls all around her crib so we have a bumper to keep her limbs from getting stuck in the slats), a beautiful quilt that I plan to keep forever :)...we also got 2 extra sheets and the toddler sheet set (flat and fitted sheets and pillowcase). I figured she would get a lot of use of her bedding and they would get pretty worn with all the washing especially if she ever gets sick and throws up or wets the bed (shudder...get some good waterproof mattress covers)

Honestly if I could do it over I probably wouldn't have spent that much on her bedding but it was the only set my husband and I could agree on.
