I would definitely do a simple crib that converts to a toddler bed for the reasons @foodnerd81: mentioned.
We had this one at our shore house a couple of summers ago for my older son. We already gave it away, but we are looking at another shore house for this summer and I’ll probably order it again for this baby:
Union 3-in-1 Convertible Crib, Grey https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JL6LOT0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_XFNoBb8GX9DCQ

@mrsbubbletea: Also- how tall is your LO? A different friend had a mini crib but her babies were super tall and outgrew them really early, like by a year. So I wouldn't bother with the plans to get the one from your friend unless your LO is really little like mine is (15%).

I would do a simple full size crib, since that will last the longest. Ideally one that can convert to a toddler bed (just by removing the side), so you don't have to squeeze two twin beds into the room for a little while longer. I don't know if the basic Ikea one does that. Another bonus- it would be harder for your older one to climb IN to the crib.

My friend had the lotus crib and her daughter slept in it from when she transitioned out of the bassinet until she got a twin bed around 2.5. She actually refused to sleep in the bed for a while and would crawl into the lotus. So clearly she liked it enough! Oh, and I have bought a basic Pack and Play (no extra bassinet level or anything) for $40 on Amazon- I did that instead of renting one on vacation since it was cheaper, and just left it there since it was more expensive to check it on the flight home). But my petite 2.5 year old is already a little cramped in it and has lots of space in her crib.

@mrsbubbletea: yeah... I don't nurse to sleep because then LO gets mad when he wakes up and I'm not there anymore :silly: but I can see that it would be really useful for that!

@periwinklebee: great point, I don't know anyone who has it in person, the ads have just always been so convincing to me! I like how the side opens, it seems easy to nurse and sneak away, but then you are stuck with a side that opens which wouldn't be great with a bigger kid around!

The lotus crib I think would mostly be useful if you travel a lot and want something lightweight that you can carry on the plane. We were gifted one and planned to use it in our room when the baby needed to sleep with AC (the rest of the house doesn't have it and gets super hot), but he doesn't sleep as well in it and we just moved the full-sized crib permanently into our room instead. I personally would go wth the full sized crib, if you can make it fit...

@brownepiano: We don't have one, but it definitely will end up useful over time.

@Ms.Mermaid: I wonder if we do have the full size then, because I am fairly sure its smaller than a pack and play? Definitely will want the lower level option too.

@Adira: @bhbee: I love the idea of having a normal baby (haha) that sleeps in a crib and probably the full size crib gives that the highest chance of happening!

If you have a packnplay already, just use the packnplay. Or get one cause they are perfect for travel (how great would it be if you could take your own bed anywhere?)

We did packnplay for 18 months with two boys then moved them to mattresses on the floor. Worked fine with two very different sleepers.

Agree with the ikea crib. Mine definitely lasted longer in a crib than they would have slept in a pnp and I like to keep them in there as long as possible.

I think if you can swing it, a real crib would be best. Ultimately I think she'll sleep better in something more sturdy, and a real crib will last you longer than the mini-crib.

If you have the full sized Arms Reach it is the same as a Pack n Play. Maybe get it a mattress though?

I would go cheap full sized IKEA crib ultimately. Maybe your friend can leave her mini crib on the porch and you can go get it some day without having to worry if you can meet up?

Help me decide what to get for my 8mo old who still doesn’t have a crib. She sleeps in an arms reach cosleeper as a freestanding basinett, in her own room. She can’t sit up from lying down yet but it’s time, she needs more space! Maybe it will make her magically stop waking up a millions times per night.

Caveat, the room is quite small and in theory she’ll be sharing it with her brother once we get him back out of our room. Right now the cosleeper and his twin bed is in there along with other furniture, it’s not winning any design awards but works. I think a standard crib would be a tad cramped but should work with some rearranging. Here’s what I am thinking are my options:
A. Standard pack and play. Can be used either at grandma’s or as a play pen if we don’t want to use it forever. It’s cheap, and should work just fine. Similar to style of current bed (not that she seems to love it or anything, ha ha).

B. Mini crib hand me down. A friend has this for us but she lives an hour away and they keep canceling plans with us due to their own stresses of marital problems. She’s been saving it for us and eventually we hope to meet up but I just don’t know when we actually will! This could work down the road if we get option A for now.

C. Fancy lotus travel crib. I’ve always been into this, love the side zip feature. Con: it’s 200$, that’s dumb. https://www.guavafamily.com/products/lotus-everywhere-travel-crib?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI04yHx9D_2wIVl-NkCh1hrAAbEAQYAiABEgKNePD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

D. Simple basic full size crib. Probably ikea, which is about 100$ plus mattress.

I think my common sense is telling me classic pack and play. So cheap! Then we can upgrade to full crib or mini crib later and use the pack and play for other stuff. Right?
