like bee, our LO slept in his crib from day 1 but we had a twin bed in his room so one of us can stay with him at night if needs be. we removed that twin bed when he turned 3 months because he dropped his night feedings.

the other thing- he made a lot of noises when he sleeps... there was no way I could rest if he slept in the same room as us. good luck!

@Chastenet: You could probably get away with it, but it definitely isn't suitable once they start being able to sit up. Also, Baby Y started looking fairly cramped in it around 4 months, but he's pretty big and long. He was still under the weight limit, though.

Our plan right now, is to use a bassinet or pack n play in our room for the first month, then sometimes around 1 month of age, move baby into the crib in their own room.

@Mrs. Yoyo: +@williamsh2: From your experience with the FP rock n play, do you think it would be suitable for the first 5 months? We live in a very small Parisian apartment and will be moving stateside when baby is 5 months, so I wanted to hold off on buying a real crib until we get to the US.

We did what @rubies did, pack and play in our room and moved the rocker/recliner in so i could nurse in there. i actually slept in the recliner the first week i was home bc our bed is high and i couldn't get in and out comfortably as i was recovering from the c-section. i think we moved him to the crib in his own room at about 2 months and it was a smooth transition. next time i will either do the same or do what mrs. bee did and sleep in the bed in his room.

I think we're going to use the bassinet in our room for the first few months (I don't care if I end up co-sleeping while nursing because it's not a big deal to me) and then moving bebe to his/her room and crib around month 4.

Our bedroom is tiny, so the bassinet will barely fit and we won't be able to bring the glider in :(

We plan to put LO in her crib from day 1 since the crib is in our bedroom. I plan on feeding her in our bed or in the recliner out in the living room, but mostly just in bed. We were given a used co-sleeper by DH's husband but I didn't really see a point if the crib was in our bedroom already, so I will probably use it like a pack-n-play in the living room during the day.

I had planned on using the bassinet on my pack n play and placing it next to our bed but I had a rough recovery and couldn't get out of bed easily so we ended up co-sleeping the first 8-10 weeks. We moved her to her crib afterwards but it was a difficult transition since she was used to sleeping with body heat and it was still winter and cold. Eventually, we had to sleep train her at 4 months to get her sleep through the night.

We have a bassinet in our room, right next to my side of the bed. I can just reach over and pick her up for her feedings. I've never had her sleep in our bed... too afraid I'd roll over her.

We had DD in our room in the pack n play until 3 weeks. When DH went back to work, we moved her to her crib in her room. We sleep better with her in her own room - she wakes periodically throughout the night and chirps a little, but is able to put herself right back to sleep. We slept in the same room with her while traveling over the holidays, and DH and I were up a lot during the night due to her noises even though she didn't need us. Also, I prefer nursing sitting up. It may be because DD hasn't ever had a great latch, but we've never been very successful nursing while laying down. I doubt I missed out on much sleep by not co-sleeping, and I was never tempted to co-sleep even when i was extremely tired because it was something I really didn't want to do. I have fallen asleep nursing her in the glider, though.

We planned on using a co-sleeper (from family friend) for the first month or so, but recent warnings about them have me doubting whether to do this.

Like @Mrs. Yoyo: many of my friends have used the rock n play and we may do that too. I'd like to put the baby in his crib around 6-8 weeks.

We had a bassinette when our LO was first born. I was always afraid of drifting to sleep when she was nursing too. So I was sure to sit completely up when feeding her. You're so tired though, that you can still drift a bit, so just becareful. I was also really good about fighting the urge to let her just lay with us after I fed her. She didn't go to her crib until 4 nights ago (she's almost 5 months).

We put a twin bed between our bed and the wall, so that LO was in his own area but I could still feed him easily without getting out of bed. For me that was a lot easier because when I had to physically get out of bed and walk to the crib it was a lot harder for me to fall asleep afterward. I think it is a matter of personal preference though, whatever works for you.

We had a bassinet for 1 1/2 months. I just liked having her right there so I could constantly check on her without getting up. For middle of the night feedings and diaper changes I still took her to her room and sat in the glider so my husband could sleep.

I did crib from day 1. DD talks in her sleep and I would never have gotten any rest. It would have been easier in our room for feedings, but we were able to work it out so my husband would help by getting her for me and taking her back to her crib sometimes.

I tried out the bassinet for about a week but my daughter cries out a lot in her sleep so I had to move her into the crib in the nursery so we could get some rest. She did fine there. If you are concerned about getting into a co-sleeping habit then I think doing everything in the nursery does help. My daughter has never co-slept with us. While it was probably more work in the beginning to get out of bed, go down the hall, into her room - I think it does help prevent going down the co-sleeping route.

I never thought of that, but I like @rubies suggestion. Maybe I'll move the rocking chair into our bedroom for the first little bit so I have somewhere dedicated to nurse in the wee hourse. I'm hoping to move LO to his/her crib by 4-6 weeks.
