It's foam and had no smell :)</p> <p>We have the Babi Italia Hamilton crib, and the reviews said it required a larger than 'normal' mattress. I liked that the seams are sealed so no liquids will / can touch the internal portion of the mattress should an uh-oh occur. It also eliminates the need for a mattress cover because of the material and seams.
