ditto to what @hilsy85 said. I also liked that there wasn't any smell or off gassing when we opened it up. Works great so far!

Thanks everyone. I'm sold on at least keeping the Green Guard one! It's not so expensive that I couldn't get a new one for a second kid but it won't break the bank now either. Since I'm taking so many hand me downs, I don't feel that bad spending a little extra on other things. But now I feel validated that I'm not just crazy or buying into the hype :)

My baby was sleeping on a hand-me-down mattress until I read that that was a bad idea. I did some research and decided to spend a pretty large amount of money for a new mattress (the Nook Pebble). He will be spending a lot of time on this mattress (over 50% of every 24 hours) so I realized that it really mattered as far as mattress quality and materials go. If you can at all afford to get your LO an organic mattress, I say you should.

if i was picking between a less expensive mattress to be used once, then replaced for each child or a more expensive mattress that would be reused- i'd absolutely choose to buy less expensive new ones for each child. i'm a worrier & SIDS risk increases significantly when infants are sleeping on a reused mattress. in an ideal world, each of my children would have a new organic mattress, but they may each end up with a new wannabe organic (one of the less $$ mattresses labeled organic, when only a small portion really is organic) mattress.

Ok maybe it's worth a better one. It's one of those things I don't mind paying up for a little but only if it makes a difference.

Ha now to decide I the PBK sheets are worth it :)

Personally, I would get the green guard certified mattress. Babies spend a lot of time in the crib.

We splurged and went for a nature pedic light weight 2 stage one. I figured Lo would be spending a lot of hours on it so I wanted a really good one.

How did you decide on your crib mattress? I know I want a lightweight foam mattress, 5" or so thick. The lady in BBB recommended the Night Night 5" Crib Mattress for $119, which happens to be 'Green Guard Certified" (something with indoor air quality). Lucie's List recommends a regular Safety First foam one that is currently $39, it says nothing about anything green.

Do I care? Did you? That's a big price difference. I mean, the baby will be sleeping in it for a couple of years, then hopefully the next baby, so I don't mind paying up a bit for a good one, but at the same time, I don't want to pay up for pretty much the same exact thing.

Thoughts? We are getting a regular Pali crib so I'm assuming any standard crib mattress will fit.
