Thank you for your feedback, ladies! Is it necessary to give it time to air out before it is put to use? I heard something along those lines. May sound silly, but it makes sense to me I guess?

We bought a Sealy soy foam reversible mattress. It is softer on one side for a toddler and harder on the other for an infant. I read somewhere that there are five baby items you don't want to go "cheap" on, and the crib mattress is one of them.

we have a Sealy Baby Ultra rest mattress, it has great reviews and is very firm, it also is waterproof. We saw this at other places like Babies r us for over $100 but we bought it from walmart for $80 and got two free gerber crib sheets as part of a bundle.

We have a moonlight slumber as well, and I really like it because the cover is waterproof (but is free of PVC, phthalates, and vinyl) and seam sealed. We didn't have to buy any extra mattress covers or pads to protect it - if LO has a blowout or spit up incident, we just take off the sheet and wipe down the mattress. To me, it seems like it will last and stay clean for multiple kiddos. It may have been a dumb thing to splurge on, but I felt like it was important to get a nice mattress since LO spends more than half of her day on it :)

we got a pricey organic naturepedic one since they spend so much time on their mattresses, it was one thing i wanted to splurge on.

but as far as firmness/quality, i don't think it matters too much how much you spend. we sleep on a king size ikea mattress that was a bargain and is super comfy!

We happen to have the Moonlight Slumber dual sided mattress. I had completely forgotten to research mattresses and when we bought our crib they recommended it (I'm sure because it was the most expensive) but we went with it and I'm really glad we did. My son really slept best on the side with a little bit of memory foam (I know, you aren't supposed to do that until they are like a year old) and I know if we'd gotten a mattress without that little bit of softness he'd be an even poorer sleeper than he already is.

I am lost on which crib mattress my husband and I are getting for the baby. I keep hearing that it is a waste spending $200+ on a mattress and that the ones around $100 will work just fine. Can you ladies please give me some insight on which crib mattress you have and how it is working for you and your LO? Thank you!!
