@Mrsbells: We have the same mattress too! My friend mentioned she bought her mattress from Walmart.com, so I checked it out and chose the one she mentioned that also had some pretty good reviews and was considerably affordable, although I'm wondering to myself whether I should have splurged for something "organic" since this mattress will be with LO for a long time!

@ladyfingers: I have the same mattress and purchased it for the same reasons.

I'm still pregnant, so I don't have any personal reviews yet.

Thanks for all the replies, ladies! While I'm definitely not trying to cheap out on the matress we select, since we have to buy two for our boys, I'm definitely mindful of price point!

@Mrsbells: how have you found the firmness of that mattress? I read some reviews online about it being too soft for an infant and other reviews about it being great, so am just curious who to believe.

We got this one from BRU based on reviews and the sale at the time:

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4246285

LO isn't here yet, so I don't have any issues with it (yet).

I have the same mattress as @stiffaknee for the same reasons she listed! It was posted as #1 in the Baby Bargains book and had excellent reviews on Amazon. Plus, it's a firmer mattress, which is supposed to be safer for infants.

We registered for the Little Dreamer by Moonlight Slumber because the price point was OK, it had great reviews, and it got a good review in Baby Bargains.

So, today I got to tour the Colgate mattress factory...I purchased the Colgate Classica I (foam mattress) and had to switch it out and while I was there, they showed me around! Really neat, I feel like a bit of a crib mattress expert now :)

When I bought my mattress, I decided on the Colgate Classica I based on a couple of things: #1-It was a best buy in the Baby Bargains book, #2- It was incredibly light and incredibly firm. It was relatively cheap, which is good, because you want a new mattress for any subsequent children.

I didnt buy an organic mattress (but buy organic everything else) because the mattress is still treated with chemicals (per federal fire safety guidelines)...So you're still exposing your baby to (potentially dangerous) chemicals.

I bought the Naturepedic organic mattress like @hilsy85. Bought it because I liked the idea of organic for something they would spend so much time on and it had awesome reviews. It was pricey, but since it can be used in a toddler bed and for a future 2nd child as well, I figured it's worth the investment.

We have a naturepedic organic lightweight one. I like that it's organic, considering how much time LO will be spending on it, and it's super light so sheet changes will be easy.

I asked the lady at Babies R Us. She seemed very knowledgeable and told me all sorts of reasons why I should go with the mattress that she picked ( of course I don't remember those reasons.....).

How did you decide what kind of crib mattress to buy? Foam, springs, price, organic, etc. Are you happy with your purchase?
