It's just attached to a hook in the ceiling with fishing line. I didn't get one with music, because I've read that a lot of times the music runs out too quickly. I almost bought a super pretty one off Etsy that I loved the look of but didn't move, and thank goodness I didn't because he squeals with delight and bats his arms and kicks his legs as soon as it starts playing the music and spinning. Get a mobile that doesn't attach to the crib (one with just a string to attach it to the ceiling). But she gets upset when it stops spinning so I'd recommend getting one that has a battery. It was not cheap, but it is beautiful and it is something I plan to have hanging in her room for years.
