Right before her second bday my LO started screaming in the crib every night so we tried letting her sleep in the big bed in her room (we have always had a queen bed in there since t was a guest room before). First few nights went great, then it became this nighttime battle of the wills with her getting up until we put her back in the crib. Eventually we just quit the big bed and put her in the crib right away again and she is sleeping ok mostly. We put him in his crib at 8 pm, he falls asleep by himself and generally sleeps until 6:30/7 at which point he yells for us to come get him. </p> <p>We are expecting LO2 in November so for some reason I thought it would be a great idea to introduce the big boy bed back in July/early August. Our pediatrician had advised that to have both beds in the same room, if possible, so that's what we did. Bought the toddler bed and put it right next to the crib. The pediatrician recommends letting them start napping in the crib when they are ready, and then trying nighttime sleep after 3-4 successful naps, and finally removing the crib after a week of successful nights. </p> <p>Well... my son has started asking to sleep in his big boy bed at almost every nap time and bed time. Problem is.... he loves the idea of it until we start walking out of the room. When we walk out, he loses it, gets up from bed and runs to the door crying hysterically. Then, typically, we'll go back in and he says he wants to sleep in his crib. </p> <p>I don't know what to do... I don't really want to start the habit of us sitting in his room until he falls asleep for two reasons 1) I don't think it will work. He's never fallen asleep with us in the room, and I don't think he can mentally calm down enough while seeing us 2) We are about to have an infant and I don't want to create a habit that's going to stretch us even thinner.</p> <p>Ultimately, I'm not in a rush to kick him out of his bed. LO2 can sleep in a pack n play for however long it takes. I just sort of wish I hadn't introduced the toddler bed...</p> <p>Any suggestions? Do we just keep doing what we're doing, and maybe eventually he'll feel comfortable enough that he won't lose it when we leave? Should I pull the big boy bed out (I worry this would backfire)? </p>
