I don't know if it was dumb luck, God giving us some much needed rest or what, but last night he slept through and no one had to lie there with him. I feel a little guilty because I sorta lied to him, "Lie down, I'll be right back!" and within 5 minutes he was asleep, no crying! I feel like I want to get crib sleeping down before adding a real bed into the mix but we'll see. Still interested in hearing everyone's experiences!

@Mama2MC: I know wouldn't it be great if you could just have someone come and make your kid sleep? My husband was like, "We could hire a psychologist!" LOL He is so afraid CIO is going to scar him for life, even though we did it when he was 6 months old.

We transitioned my son to a floor bed at 12 months hoping that he would sleep better. We transitioned him to a toddler bed at 14 months old. He comes out to see us now (we keep his door opne). But at least he isn't crying his eyes out. But often, he still hangs out on his bed waiting for us to come to him.

No answer for you as we are in the same situation. The Boy slept wonderfully for 12 months (in his own bed, in his own room and on his own) through the night. At the beginning of this year, it all went down the drain - teething? sickness? We've transitioned him to a floor bed but he now needs us to sleep with him...and then we sneak out. He'll wake up early AM and go to our room and we go back to his bed. Just not strong enough to CIO so we deal with it the best we can. Maybe we can hire someone to do the sleep training for us? ;)

@sloaneandpuffy: we started off with a floor bed since
She was a newborn and it's been great. Started having problems when Lo learned to crawl. Once we gated she still woke up because I was nursing her and she wanted boob..? (milk dried up at 15 months). She's 16 months old now and We'll probably take the gate away once she gets a wee bit older. I wanna make sure she's sleeping well at night and ready before we give her freedom again. ;)

@looch: I have the same concern... not really that he'd play, but that he'd like try to stand on one of his little chairs or his table and fall or whatever. His room is pretty baby proof but at that age they can always figure out some way to be dangerous!!

My son is the same age, his sleep sucks. We don't lie down with him to fall asleep, BUT we do either bring him into our bed when he's waking up super early or we give him some milk and put him back in his crib. It's not a good solution AT ALL and I was thinking maybe putting him into a toddler bed would be better, but then I'd have to empty his room completely, otherwise he'd be having play time in the middle of the night.

@chopsuey119: OK, so I am curious why you switched... I mean, it's still like a crib this way, right? Or did you just want to start getting her used to a more grown-up type bed?

YAY for sleeping through the night by the way!!

My LO has a floor bed and used to wake up a few times a night too. She'd crawl/walk over to our room!
We bought a large gate and put it around her bed. SInce I've weaned her, she's finally sleeping through the night again! Going on 2+ weeks now!

This is the one @banana and I have.

Sooooo, we have having some issues with our 19 month old's sleep, namely we lie with him until he goes to sleep and then when he wakes up in the MOTN we have to go back. Sigh.

I feel CIO is the only answer here (we did it back in the day but sort of lost our resolve when the situation broke down again after months of decent sleep) but my husband thinks it might be time to get him out of the crib and just keep putting him back in bed. This sounds like crazy talk to me -- I'd love to transition but I don't think it's going to solve the problems we have now, in fact I think things will be worse.

Any experiences transitioning a toddler who's not sleep trained to a bed?
